i have read the recent threads regarding going on overseas trips with gear. Very informative and brought up issues that i wouldn;t have thought about until too late. I am going to Italy on my honeymoon in Sept. I wouldlike some help planning the equipment so i don't miss any great shots. I currently have a 10D, 17-44 L, 50 mm 1.8, 100 mm 2.8macro, 75 - 300 4-5.6, and Sigma 28-135. I have a speedlight 550 EX. I also have a circular polarizer for the 17-44L. I will be getting a epson p-2000 and some sort of mini-tripod. For the novice, i think it's quite good. Can anyone think of something that might make the photographic experience better? All the other "honeymoon stuff" i can handle thank you :)

I'd take the 17-44 and the 28-135 and leave it at that. I might take the flash. You're not going on a photographic expedition, you're going on your honeymoon!

yeah, thanks. you're absolutely right. I already have a very small bag that i will be taking. I don't want to lugging a lot around. If it doesn't fit in there, i'll leave it.

just 2 lenses and I wouldn't bother with the flash. You can make do with the built-in.
Just my .02
Let us know what you decided and how it worked out.

I agree with the others, its your honey moon. Just take the 17-40 L and 28-135.
Also, if you plan on doin a lot of portrait shots of the new wife (congratulations by the way!!), then take the 100mm macro. But the macro doesnt always have to be with you. Just take it out when you know you will be goin somewhere pretty and you will want to photograph your wife portrait style :D
:) enjoy

Get an infra-red remote so you can get pictures of both of you with the mini-tripod. Otherwise there will be pictures only of the Missus.
A spare battery would no go amis and might avoid your first arguement if you were to miss a great photo moment with a dead camera

Good idea Tudordoc.
Or just use the built-in timer option if you would rather spend money on something else. (opposed to buyin an iR remote)

I'd bring along an easy point and shoot cheap camera that you can give to other tourists when you ask them to take a picture of you with your new wife! Otherwise, you won't have any pictures together! I'd be too scared to offer my Canon to a stranger and they don't know how to use it anyway! Get some disposables! I find that if you offer to take someone's picture, they will then do the same for you!
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage!

Thaks for the advice. Like i said, i defnitely want to travel light. I was planning in using ther timer and tripod for shots of us together. I didn't even know there was an IR remote. Where can i get one and how much is it? Unfortunately, my point and shoot digital is on the fritz. My budget allowed either a new ps camera or the epson p2000. and i thought i'd use the latter more.

Oops. Although my 350D has IR remote the 10D does not. Apparently you can get a wireless remote. Should have read your equipment list more carefully.
