Alright folks, I have a 300D (dig Rebel) and have had it for a while now, no problems until now! My auto focus DOES NOT WORK. It doesn't work with any of my three lenses. I have it switched to autofocus, no dice. Reset all the cam. settings, no dice. Cleaned the sensor, no dice. I need help and I need it fast. This just started today, and I have a wedding tomorow! I'd rather not have to use my film!

Since you tried on 3 lenses then it won't be a lens issue. Since it is not focusing then it is a communication issue. So, my conclusion would be the contacts on the camera side. To confirm that try raising the f/stop and depress the DOV button the viewfinder should get dark.

Oh one more possibility, If the meter part don't work then it might be the little mirror behind the main mirror is stuck in the up position. To confirm that set camera to Manual exposure and and see if you can zero the meter with the shutter or aperature.

Did that and it got very dark

Would that leave a weird, two square looking thing on my front mirror? Because there is one there

What you are looking at is the normal appearance of the primary mirror. The secondary mirror is smaller and is behind the primary one.

I know this is a dumb answer, but we all have done it before....the lens switch is set on Auto....

Sorry but I was away from the Computer, Got to do some work at work.

On the view finder you would see two sets of numbers. On the left will be the shutter speed like 60, 125,etc. These number are 1 over the displayed number like 1/60 sec., 1/125 sec, etc when the " mark then you are going into the whole secs like 1' 30" that would represent 1 and 1/30 sec. I think. Now the right side you'll see another number this is the aperature this is the opening in the lens that controls the amount of light entering the camera. The smaller the number the larger the opening and so on. In the far right there is a meter, when set in manual mode, in other mode the like Av and Tv it is use for exposure compensation, + will increase the exposure and - will shorten the exposure.

Now if you set the mode to M and look through the view finder or look at the rear display, it has the same meter there too. if you change the shutter speed or the f/stop (aperature), hold down the AV button to switch to aperature adjustment, the (lcd)needle will move. If the needle is on the right of the center increasing the shutter or f/stop will move it to the left and vice versa.

If the needle moves then the secondary mirror is most likely in the correct position.

If you feel dventurous you might gently lift the mirror up really slowly and you would see the secondary mirror fold up nto the primary mirror.

That is considered a pretty fragile area.

Like I said If he feels adventurous. I did it before but I'm use to handling delicate components and I'm one of those curious fools.

You hav'nt set Custom Function 4 by any chance (Assuming the 300D has CF4 of course)
