a little over a week ago we had a thunderstorm roll thru. the perfect chance to try my new lightning sensor.

the sensor is pretty slick - it sits on top of the camera where an external flash would attach and then just plugs into the side of the camera. point it at a storm and when it detects lightning it takes a picture.

so i grabbed my camera and set it up on my tripod and then attached the lightning sensor

here's the result. i must say i am very satisfied with the sensor. **none of these have been touched up at all - just reduced in size.

I wonder how it works, seems like it works pretty good. I use the sit and wait, and take lots of pics technique lol

^^^ from what i can figure out it detects a flash and then triggers the shutter.

i first tested it with my wife's point and shot - just used the flash on the other camera to simulate lightning and it worked.

i bought it on ebay - here is a link for the sensor....

LIGHTNING SENSOR!?!?!

When the heck did they come out with one of those, first I'm hearing about it! That's amazing!

The few lightning stills I grabbed were the old fashioned long duration/bulb mode and wait method. What will they come out with next?!?!? LOL!

If its just detecting a flash, I wonder if we could mod a optical slave with a pc connection and hook it to the side of the camera?
