Have we really got to load ZB to extract the jpeg from the Raw image?

Terry,
Nope, BreezeBrowser does that fine. I have actually uninstalled every bit of Canon software from my system. I reckoned to rationalise things a bit and add what was absolutely necessary.
So I've got BB and Downloader and patched Camera Raw working fine with no sucky Canon software in sight as yet. Of course, I've only taken 29 pics so far and may be I have found out a vital missing part yet. :)

What are the benefits of an embedded JPEG? I don't understand what that's all about?

Terry,
Tools>Extract Embedded JPEGs. It pops a little window with a couple of questions, like "where d'you want'em?". The default is an "Extracted" folder underneath where the image files are stored.

Extracting the embedded JPG is MUCH faster than converting from raw. There are two obvious uses:
1 - as a "proof" to review or show a client quickly without much effort
2 - as the final version of the image, if the JPG turns out OK
With the D30, the embedded JPG was not full-size, so it was no good for option 2. I never used it much. Doesn't the D60 allow a full-size JPG? Any D60 owners/ex-owners like to comment? The 10D is too new for me to know whether I will change my "exclusively raw" habits.
It must be near lunchtime: suddenly I'm thinking of carpaccio, steak tartar and sushi. :D

Thanks roger, i knew we could rely on you for accurate info.
here is another question.
one of my test photos in RAW using 135 - 400 @ 400mm
gives an image size of 3072 x 2048
The extracted jpg is 1536 x 1024
on the other hand using a 28.0-135.0mm @ 70.0mm
I have RAW @ 3072 x 2048
and extracted jpg 3072 x 2048
Also 135.0-400.0mm @ 135.0mm
RAW @ 3072 x 2048
and extracted jpg 1536 x 1024
Any Ideas on this?
