Guys ,

I don't own the D30 , D60 or D10 or for that matter ever even tried shooting with them.
My question is for those who have the D10 and D60 if when taking shots at the highest resolution, how good will be a 16X20 print ...

I know alot has to do with lighting, lens etc but can it truly match it with that taken with a medium format camera?

Or do we still wait for digital to increase in accuracy along with technology?

Eventually I know that the world will perhaps just head into the Digital Realm.....

Thanks

Its got nothing to do with light, or having the most expensive lenses. D60's produce 16x20 prints straight off the camera. Use a standard Canon lens. Search on the forum.

The best way to go is print one yourself. That way you don't take someones subjective opinion on what a "good" 16x20 print looks like. Try going to a place like www.imaging-resource.com or www.dpreview.com and grab one or a few of the full samples from the review, run a little sharpening on them in Photoshop, and have them printed using your preferred method. Some sites will even provide RAW or TIFF versions...might try Canon's site too, but there's not much variety there and most are not a good test for print quality/detail.

I have all three cameras (D30, D60, 10D). Don’t ask why. I used Ofoto to print a series of eight 16X20 images as an inexpensive ‘test’ using the D60. To my surprise, these images are excellent. All are portrait images with little crop so just about all the camera’s six megapixels were available for the enlargements. In addition, I have dozens of 13X19 prints using the Canon S9000 printer and again, amazing quality. Professionals still have a hard time believing these enlarged images were taken from a digital camera. My next task is to use a ‘professional’ printing service for a few selected 20X30 prints. Stay tuned!

I had some relatives over to my house and took a one year picture of my nieces daughter with a Canon D60 on the largest file at ASA 100. I retouched it on photoshop and burned it on a CD and sent it to my lab in Cedar Falls,Iowa. I got it back and the 16 x 20 that I got back was absoulutely amazing. I even looked at it through a magnifying glass. The quality is that of a medium format camera(like my mamiya 645's). I am conviced now that digital 35's make much better enlargements than film. I've had several large pictures from the D60 and I am impressed to the point that I rarely use my EOS 1n now. The D60 can easily make a 16x20. I always sharpen my image in photoshop and adjust color before printing. I have been doing professional photography for over 30 years and digital cameras have been the greatest thing to come along in my lifetime. I can't imagine what the future holds.
