Spirit,
if you want to do this kind of a photo on Photoshop, you go:
layers: adjustment layer: Hue/Saturation, click attach to previous layer
you check "colorize" and choose the tint and the saturation you want to make the photo one hue and saturation overall
you click "OK"
you select the layer mask, you see it in the layers palette linked sith a chain to the levels symbol on the adjustment layer
then you paint with black on this layer to block its effect on selected (painted) parts the underlying layer -you goof, you hit "x" and paint with white and correct, hit "x" and paint with black again
you can use brushes of your liking or the gradient tool which in circular mode creates an effect as in here
then you either flatten the image and do further tweaks
or hit "option" key and do "merge visible" from the layers menu which gives you another layer to work on while leaving you the backdoor open to get back from where you started
have fun

WOW! Marie what a Neat ( he thinks weird  ) effect. I really like it, guess because it's so different. Or is it that the photo is normal and I really shouldn't have eaten that sausage and pepper grinder (hoagie, sandwich in a long roll or whatever there called where everyone is  ) and washed it down with all those beers. Oh tell me it isn't so, tell me I'm not seeing greenish because of what I ate.    All kidding aside great job. You amaze me with the artistic effects you put on your photos, nicely done.

:lol::lol::lol:
thank you all very much Lonnie , JF, Smooth, Garbidz, Maxima, Spirit and Sandy
I just used vertical colour in effects in elements 3 and then slid the balance between levels / brightness /contrast shadows/ highlights
little things like that
thanks a lot everyone:)
sorry about any harm done to the eyes:lol:
mine are ok
I think that possibly is a man Garbidz
I have a shot (fairly glamorous dresses) where I am almost certain that it is two men dressed as women
(different shot, different people)

no adam's apple. one of the few visible secondary characteristics that are hard to change and hard to hide.

I think something's wiggy with the board lately because the other day I replied to a thread (that had no replies yet) and it didn't put it in my "subscribed threads" thingy in the UserCP, but more than that, the thread remained at the bottom of the page with 0 replies next to it. I checked, and my reply WAS there.
Strange things are afoot, at the POTN. heehee!

many thanks David
sorry with the late reply
I know what you mean, though not every man's adam's apple shows very obviously
not that I notice anyway.
maybe I am not looking closely enough
for anyone who can maybe put me right , are these women or men ?
when taking the shot (quickly) I thought they were glamorous women
but now am not so sure
their legs (nearest foot) and arms are fairly 'heavy' looking
(and shoulders on the person on the right are fairly broad,
broadly speaking)

I posted a hatted lady here on whom I used the color selecting technique: H/S layer, desaturate and then paint black in the layer mask...there http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=720943#post720943
(SHE was a lady, no question about it)
