A couple of evenings now I have been trying to figure out what it was that Martin REALLY does to get the drama to his shots...
-The first thing that became obvious is that you need a beginning shot about something...which is interesting and technically OK. That was the hardest part...
-The second part was to download a RAW-converter from Adobe site and install it.
-The third part was to familiariarize with its tweaks, how and why.
-Then finally to the easiest and by far funnest part of the business: Selective enhancing and blending. What Martin does, he selects essential parts of the photo, selects them, pops the selection into a new layer with command-j, then runs USM to this part and adjusts the transparency of the Command-j'ed layer so that it remains inconspicuous.
-What I did as I am a coward always leaving a back door open, I made a new layer after each tweak, option-merge visibled the contents of the previous layers on it and doubled it..following tweaks then performed on the double, burns and dodges GALORISSIMO!
-To the final version, I run "specific colour" to white and grey and a final levels and an USM.
How did you guess, it IS raining outside...
