These are both crops from the same image and I would like peoples opinions on which the think is the stonger image, and also why so.

EXIF:- 300d, 24-70f/2.8 @ 68mm, iso 200, f/8.0, 1/125 sec

(The croppping was due my apparent inability to hold a camera level!:confused: )

Two completely different images but the vertical works and the horizontal is weak.....the eye travel in the vertical is constantly moving both vertical and horizontally thru the image...the 2 men create visual tension leaning to the right of the image.....kinda interesting, eye travel......the rope going on the angle is key to the visual strength of the image....don

Neither.

There is too much obstructing whatever that is that is going on.

You have two (or is that three?) guys in orange being blocked a bunch of ropes and wires and railings and concrete thing.

One guy is patting the other with both hands while looking down. Is he saying "don't fall"? - I don't think so with all those barriers.

No one else seems particularly interested. Why should I be?

Nope, they are both equal.

The vertical just seems to flow with the photo better. For instance, the one guy is looking down which helps the photo. Also, in the vertical crop, much of the extraneous parts of the photo are missing. It narrows the focus of the capture and thus bring the photo to life better. Of course all of these comments are IMHO!

Thanks for sharing!

Where did the images go?

Horizonal - more context, more to look at with interest and less confined. The other is just a jumble of men with no sense of what they are doing. Its not about lines, its about the story and about space and movement.

I voted for the portrait (vertical) format. It basically tells the whole story. The rest of the image is superfluous and doesn't add that much.
