I have the 550ex and the 580ex and I ordered a Stroboframe Pro T bracket for my 20D. My questions is what do I need to keep TTL for the flash? Which cord or adapter is compatible for both the 550 and 580? If I can't have both I would prefer something for the 580. Thanks

You're just trying to connect the hot shoe of the camera to the foot of the flash unit?

Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2.

If you put one flash on the hot shoe and one on a light stand, you don't need any cables. Use wireless ETTL or wireless manual.

Thanks, but I was thinking about an adapter. Do I need one?

If you want to move the Master fllash off the camera, you need an Off The Shoe Cord 2.

Yes. Control one using wireless ETTL, and hope that the signal from the first one activates the second. It should inside, but outdoors with nothing to reflect off it might be more of a problem.

Tim, have you had any more experience with using ETTL Master/Slave and metering???

Im trying to use 1 580 and 2 420 lights,... I put something like this up in another post, but i cant seem to put my finger on how the Camera/580 meter the powerlevel of the two 420s...

Do the 420s fire all the time as a SET output? Or does the 580/Camera talk to the 420 telling it what to fire at. For some reason i was under the impression i could stick the 420s anywhere i want and the light output (for each strobe) would be automatically adjusted by the camera.

Scott, you might be able to answer this for me =) This guy seems to know what i need =)

The Master Flash (550 or 580) communicates to the slaves via a series of pulses mixed in with the preflash, how much to fire.

Scott, please check out this thread... Tim was getting closer to the type of answer i was looking for. Im hoping this might help clarify what im trying to understand. Im trying to look at this "system" from a lot more technical standpoint...

Trying to figure out if this "system" will work for me. and HOW it will work for me.
