Sorry for the off topic post, I was just wondering if any San Francisco-ans could help.
Is this a decent area to live in?

I'd appreciate some help.

I live an hour's drive from there.
Personally, my opinion is that you could not pay me enough money to live in San Francisco.
It is an interesting city for photography, and I go there once or twice a year for that purpose. The weather there is kind of interesting, if you like fog.
There's too many panhandlers and too much pigeon crap.

Darn it Bob, you're supposed to encourage me lol j/k
So do you know if that's a good area since you live so close?

Well, no, I don't live close. I live an hour's drive away, and I virtually never go to that part of the city because of all of the panhandlers and pigeon crap. I admit that I have been through there, but I didn't like it at all. But that is just me.
I'm sure it is good if you can afford the high rent rates. Some people like the ambience and hustle of the big city. Some people like to visit the convention center and all that. To each, his own.
You can't park a decent car there without it being burglarized or stolen. For that reason, you can't store your camera equipment in the trunk of your car.
The good news. There are plenty of trendy little bistros on every corner.

I don't live in SF but I go up there all the time. That area of town is almost all apartments on top of commercial establishments. No parking to speak of. Lots of traffic congestion and noise. Also, it's very close to the Tenderloin (if not actually in it) which used to be the biggest crime and drug-ridden neighborhood in SF. However, it's cleaned up considerably in the past couple decades and I don't personally have a problem walking around there. However, it's definitely not the best place to live in SF. There are a few nice places to live in that area though -- but it's impossible to tell from that map. Like many big cities, the location is literally within walking distance of nicer places including fancy shopping, good eats, and the Museum of Modern Art. Er, if walking a mile isn't difficult for you :)
