Being relatively new to digital photography, I am having a blast taking pictures of everything around me.

I was playing around with different lighting setups, using lamps and flashes. Two days ago I finally got my Canon Off-camera shoe cord. I hate the coiled stiff cord, will have to exchange that. But finally the exposure seems to get where I want it.

So here is my first public offering... I am so excited. Backlit Phalaenopsis flower (well... the center part) using my G3 and +2 and +4 diopter lenses. Then some contrast improvement in PS, but no sharpening or cropping.

Thomas,

I like the idea of backlit flowers, but have yet to try it. Yours is a good inspiration, now that Spring is coming. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful shot. Looks like an orchid to me ( dare I say tonsils !)

Thank you... Absolutely right, it is an Orchid, Genus Phalaenopsis. Very common, but still exciting to have it open its flowers after a year sitting there with just leaves. Took almost 100 shots of it, this one is probably the one I liked most. Amazing the differences between direct flash and this backlit one.

Orchids are my favorite not because we extract a certain substance to use it in some prescription drugs online (https://www.planetdrugsdirect.com/), but because they are as beautiful as heaven and they are almost divine flowers. That’s what I like to call them: Gods’ Flower.

Good idea but I find the compostion not appealing.
