Does anyone have any experience using the 1dsMkII with the 85mm 1.8 lense, if so, how did it do, or do I really have to look at the 1.2 for the 1DS MkII?
TIA,
-Steve

The 85 f1.8 works fantastic on the 1ds. For proof, just look at photosig or pbase galleries with this combo. MTF chart for it substantiates this also. It's a stellar lens, period.

I have both lenses, and 1DsMKII. What kind of picture you need & I will try to post it for you.
I love the sharpness, colour and the lens appearance from 1.2, if the AF speed of the 1.2 could catch the 1.8 than it is perfect.;)
1.2 with correct AV and TV setting, 99% are keeper.

I am mainly looking to use it for portraits, shooting almost always in manual... Can i ask how you come to have both versions, which one did you get first? Do you have comparitive shots from the two lenses?
Thanx,
-Steve

I have the 1.2 first, and love it, won't trade for anything (especailly it is rated very cost against Leica & Zeiss in http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/264185 ).
Why did I buy the 1.8?
- Because a lot of thread said it is good, fast & .......
- But I found the color render is not as good as 1.2, but it is my opinion only. I may be wrong.
- So I seldom use 1.8, because I have 1.2 and if I need fast AF I have 135 f/2L.

By the way the 1.2 AF is not that slow with 1DsMKII.
It is faster that Contax 645 80mm and Mamiya 80mm.;)

If you don't mind manual lenses, the Olympus Zuiko 90mm f/2 Macro is a noted to be a superb performer, as is the Leica 90mm Summicron APO.

Hi, have this combo, as a newbie I was really surprised at just how tricky shallow dof is to gauge and get right, guess this comes with experience lol!
Is there a technique - the thought of anything shallower makes my head hurt :o)
Hope this link works - a photo of Marketta using 1ds2 with 85 1.8
all the best, Julian

I have both the 85/1.2 and 1Ds2 and have to emphasize that this combination is a killer. AF is slow YES, but the manual focusing ring is sooooo smooth and gives you perfect control. Drop the AF with this lens and focus yourself - this is the among the best lenses i´ve got - but it´s no bargain... you would probably also fancy the 1.8, but this one is awesome. Tacksharp even wide open.
