When we did our wedding video we had the Video guy include music from our favorite movie

If your selling it, I'd be careful your not infringing on copyright laws. I have made some slideshows of my family and have used commercial music but I haven't resold it. If I was doing it for money I wouldn't use this music.
That being said for a wedding Bryan Adams "Everything I do". Shania Twain "From This Moment". Areosmith "Don't wanna Miss a Thing"

The first thing you'll need to check on is copyright and performance right restrictions (most commercially-available recordings). Distributing music with either of those claimed can get you in big trouble, even if you didn't sell the DVD. This will vary from country to country, so check your local laws.

I would stick with something in the "classical" genre, ie. Vivaldi, Mozart, etc. You're less apt to violate copyright laws.

You might find out what the wedding dance was and maybe the music that was for the Mom/ groom and bride/dad dances....Simon and Garunkel have lots of music that works...but then again maybe I'm getting old..............

Canon in D is played at almost everyone wedding. I agree with jwilson, you should stick with classical music if you want to avoid copyright problems.

For my wedding dvd slideshow, the photographer asked us what music we wanted and since the DVDs came in our entire package, I don't think anyone else really would care where the music came from. We are free to distribute it among family since she made some extra copies.

I just did a wedding DVD using the couples "our song" - there wasn't a dry eye in the house when they first viewed it (of course it *may* have had something to do with the onion sandwitches they were eating <LOL>). I used Photo Story 3 (free download but $20 for the DVD burner plugin). It worked real well.

As adviced above, either make some sort of agreement and pay royalty fees or use something else to stay away from infringement.
As for what kind of music.... I would say it depends on the couple and mood. Happy stuff. Don't used like Beethoven's 5th, that would be more suitable for a horror movie :D
