compare the 24L to the 24L II, then compare the 24L II with the 35L, and you might see why they're in no hurry. the 50L needs and update more thenthe 35.

With Nikon releasing their own 85 "L-quality" and rear-focusing fast prime, Canon definitely needs to redesign their sluggish 85L lens.

It is only 1.4!! they can't design a 1.2 because of the NIKON mount.
Slow is because 1.2 at 85mm is massive amount of glass to move;)

Canon seems to have pretty fast focusing with their telephotos, which likely have floating glass elements about the size of those in the 85L.

agreed. This is the only thing I have to complain about the current 85L. I don't find it particularly slow for what I use it for

I don't think it's going to happen soon...
It's the turn of the 24-70 a new flash, maybe a 14-24.
