Okay, because us TPBM'rs tend to bend the rules in the competition thread, this thread is for us :D
This is for general chat and off TPBM topic items. Enjoy!
Edit 07/14/07: For those who may wander by, stop in and say hello :D We are a friendly, albeit odd, bunch and welcome any and all.

Thanks. I put it on the cover of the last newsletter and it got lots of comments. In retrospect, there are a couple of minor glitches in it. I should have either moved my viewpoint a little to the left or moved the handcar a little to the right. By doing that it would have moved the handle from out in front of the name on the coach and it would have completely hidden the shop trucks the rear of the car is sitting on.

Hi Everyone. I'm off to catch up in a sec, but I wanted to share a small TR announcement before I did. If you're not interested, please just move on....
It's becoming somewhat traditional it seems with these longer TR series to stop in the middle of the somewhere and take a break.
This is no exception.
A bunch of extra curricular stuff has been going on around here and I've not been able to devote the kind of time needed to the strip. Subsequently, my "buffer" has been critically depleted. I'm going to have to take some time off from posting the Monterey Jack series until I can recoup that buffer again. I'm thinkin' that the month of September would do the trick.
I hope you don't mind this interruption. I appreciate your hanging around the TR universe.... more than you'll ever know.
Enjoy your well earned time off. I shall practice my patience. :D

Redneck harness, too big dog tag, pissed off-undoped cat.
:lol::lol:
I had something profound and potentially life altering to tell you...
the shiny things will be the death of me
Zane: Safe flying, remember to keep your hands and feet inside the plane at all times!
That takes all the fun out of the trip. *sulks* Oh wait, I'm not the one flying. *sigh*
Okay so there I was, in bed, reading and dozing. Ear plugs in. When I hear talking. IN MY FREAKING living room! I KNOW Dan is snoring beside me. I'm totally flipped out. SO what do I do? I don't take out the earplugs (duh) and I don't grab any weapons (duh-er) and I DON'T wake Dan up (it would have taken too long to get him coherent) and I just race out there and turn on the lights. Yeah. Pacha was sitting on top of the tv. He'd turned it on and turned the volume up to high. He's been acting up all day. No idea why.
I was going to say...
I think he's leaving threatening messages. He's never once responded positively to the "you want a little brother" question.
...something along this line. They say cats can have premonitions, he may know his non-calm sanctuary is about to be invaded again. And now it has been leaked out that it will be by a red-neck at that.:lol::lol:

The larger planes that do the long distance and trans-atlantic/pacific flights can handle stronger winds and storms, so if anything is cancelled it is usually the rent-a-budget planes and the smaller domestic flights first. Then when the hurricane moves closer to affect anything taking off and landing (i.e. severely reduced visibility), then the airports will shut down.

Canadian Beer for Jim,
Once upon a time, Molson Canadian was one of the better beers, and beat just about anything that we got from the US. Now, it really pales compared to the multitude of great micro-brewery offerings out there. Even throughout the US I have found some really good offerings.
For Jim, that label would have to read, "Domestic." I'm sure it would seem a lot less interesting.
Send him some yellow water from the U.S. instead. Maybe a 'flavorful' Bud Light.
Truth
We have Bud Light here too, not that it tastes bad, it just has very little taste at all.
For a great beer on the stronger side, I found this a month ago in a local beer store. It was very strong tasting, but oh so yummy. :)
http://micro.dieuduciel.com/upload/Rigor.jpg
Rigor Mortis ABT (Rigor Mortis ABT)
Quadrupel - 10.5% alc./vol.
oz.)
Strong brown ale inspired by the beer brewed by Belgian Trappist monks. Very little bitterness, this beer has intense malty and sweet flavours, mixed with the taste of chocolate and caramel. It presents complex red fruit and spice flavours due to the type of yeast that is used during the brewing process. This beer is at its best only after it has aged for six months. The Rigor Mortis are complex beers designed and brewed with patience and care in the tradition of the great Belgian Abbey beers.
Rigor Mortis Abt is brewed only once a year, and is sold in April until stocks last.
This beer won a gold medal (first place amongst 10 gold medal winners) at the adjudicated "MBeer" contest during the Mondial de la Bière in Montréal in 2006.
The Rigor Mortis ABT was born in our Montreal brewpub in August 2001

Hi again
Lisa i like the name .
Crissa , glad your train is coming back ...Holy Moo Amtrak is still weird after all these years , I took it across the US .lots of delays , waiting , and you know how much i enjoy that !
One of the reasons for the delays is that Amtrak runs on tracks belonging to other railroads and the railroads give priority to their own trains. It's getting better because the government has basically told the freight railroads to start giving more priority to Amtrak.
Gah...Amtrak!! The rail lines and trains are horrible. Everything needs upgrading. The ride just isn't smooth at all, the carriages are so old etc. Made the UK look like it's train service was super, and even that is put horribly to shame by the French and German trains!!
When we rode the Coast Starlight to Oregon last year it was one of the most pleasant trips we've ever been on. The ride was smooth and the cars were in excellent shape. According to Trains Magazine, Amtrak has just ordered a bunch of new cars so it should be getting better.
I do agree European railroads are lightyears ahead of the US when it comes to passenger service. You can thank the government for that. By emphasizing (and subsidizing) air and road travel, i.e., the interstate highway system, the government put the passenger railroads out of business.
Difference between flying and the train when storms come along, is that you can reroute a flight to go around a storm if need be - trains are stuck on rails and either you can go, or not go.
Is the hurricane the reason service in the Northeast Corridor was suspended?
Rails are often some of the first to wash, because of where they're built.
In the low spots...
Can't decide if I'd rather travel Amtrak or fly....they're truly both my preferred way to travel! I love the relaxed atmosphere of the trains...and if you get on one that has dining car service, its so much fun AND excellent food (and they serve turtle pie for dessert). Flying is fast, efficient-ish and fun too. :-S
I KNOW how I'd travel if I had the choice between the two... Flying is a major hassle, what with all the security checks and now the airlines are nickle-and-dimeing their passengers to death with all of the added fees. It seems every time some half-baked terrorist wannabe tries something, air travelers get hit with another layer of security. I'm surprised we don't have to put our underwear on the conveyor after that last episode...
The seats on a plane are cramped with no legroom, especially on the smaller planes that are now being used on the regional routes. The Dash-8 we flew in out of Eugene last year was like flying in the back seat of a Smart Car... And I want to know why we had to go from Eugene to Portland, then to Seattle to get a flight back to San Diego.
Even though we had a bedroom on the trip to Oregon, we went back and checked out the coach seats. They are as good as a First Class seat on an airplane. They recline way back and have lots of legroom.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoy flying. As long as it isn't on a commercial airline... Stick me in the front seat of a Stearman and I'm as happy as a clam.
Tif said that the name was after one of the songs she likes...I think this is it.

Not yet. the window is back up so the car is secure, but I haven't gotten out to work on it. I can't decide if I want to use the epoxy I have here already or go get something else. It looks like the original adhesive was some kind of RTV. I'm also wondering if JB Weld would work... Thing is, I don't want it to be so permanent that I couldn't get it apart if the regulator ever fails.

Lisa, you are welcome to share any phone snaps I send.
Right now, Taz ... oops.. I mean Zoot, is sleeping peacefully back in his carrier. wow!! amazing that he's that relaxed...so cool!
The poor cat in the dream sounds like he was being sent to an internment camp.
Tif said that the name was after one of the songs she likes...I think this is it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IqH3uliwJYlovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve them. I knew I liked .Tif.
"the riot at the airport"i'm in serious awe. i don't think I travel that well!
For him to be relaxed enough to eat at the airport is phenomenal.^^that!
When we rode the Coast Starlight to Oregon last year it was one of the most pleasant trips we've ever been on. The ride was smooth and the cars were in excellent shape. According to Trains Magazine, Amtrak has just ordered a bunch of new cars so it should be getting better.
haha, i saw mention of that too.
Is the hurricane the reason service in the Northeast Corridor was suspended?
threats of, yes.
If she likes that one, she'll really like the Squirrel nut Zippers...

Once upon a time, Molson Canadian was one of the better beers, and beat just about anything that we got from the US. Now, it really pales compared to the multitude of great micro-brewery offerings out there. Even throughout the US I have found some really good offerings.
Truth
We have Bud Light here too, not that it tastes bad, it just has very little taste at all.
For a great beer on the stronger side, I found this a month ago in a local beer store. It was very strong tasting, but oh so yummy. :)
It is looking great, Deb.
Lisa, Zoot is a great name. :D
Gotta love micro breweries. There are plenty around here too, which is nice. I like to try them out when we head up to Maine for some lobster lunch on weekends :D

I had the funniest dream. I dreamt we were picking up Cat & Wade at the airport and they showed us the cat. I said "oooh he's so cute, wish we could decide on a name for him" and the cat said "Call me Zoot. I was a lead drummer in an all cat band until I was forcibly relocated."
Go for the companionship. On second thought, you've said hubs has a very long schedule - go for that companionship. They're both just big holes in the ground when you come right down to it, just one's got better lighting than the other. :{)#
Yeah, I'm leaning in that direction. Will talk it over with hubby some more tonight.
One may have better lighting but the others temperature is cooloer. ;)
I just hit the back of my ankle on a piece of metal, hoping I can walk off the train at this point. Swollen like a softball and bruised already, I froze sone water bottles to bring with us and have one on it as I type. Holy **** does it hurt!!!!!!!
ugghhh hope it feels better soon, Crissa.

For Jim, that label would have to read, "Domestic." I'm sure it would seem a lot less interesting.
Send him some yellow water from the U.S. instead. Maybe a 'flavorful' Bud Light. It was fin in Belize because Guinnes is brewed there so it was priced as domestic
morning,
Wool, nice flutterby
Becky, cute biiiig kitty
Z & Cat, SAFE travels...we'll be waiting at the other end!
Jenn, yay on George.

Yo. I am using internet on the plane. Zoe is asleep at my feet.
There should be a law you have to be at least 12 years old to fly or you have to buy all the seats in the row ahead and the row behind. I think this mom behind us finally figured ot it was safer for her kid if it stopped kicking our seats.

Families with young children should have their own section of the airplane...
Be careful. THIS (http://www.seattlepi.com/fun/comic.asp?feature_id=Bizarro) is going to be the next step in the evolution of the airlines picking the pockets of travelers...
