I am needing to buy a better digital camera. I have researched digital cameras for several weeks now and I can't see straight! I am looking for a camera that can take photos of the exterior and interior of homes for websites and for brochures(I am a Realtor). I also would like a good camera that takes photos of family events as well as for vacation photos(a zoom would be nice). I also would like to learn to take more creative shots. I especially would love to learn how to take city night time photography.
My husband is a scuba diver and it would be great if I could find a camera that does that as well(although this is not as important an option as I have a Film camera for this). I have narrowed it down to the Canon line of cameras. They seem to have the best image quality as well as many manual options for creativity for the price. I am having a hard time deciding between the S45 or S50 or G2 or G3. The S45 or S50 would be better because they are more portable but the G2 and G3 have an option of changing lenses and more options for creativity. Any suggestions would really help me make a decision. Thank you in advance.

We have the s45 and it's been a wonderful camera. It is small, easy to use, with lots of great features that have been fun to learn how to use. No regrets at all. Also the picture quality is quite good! When we bought ours the s50 was not out there. I would probably purchase the s50 now. We thought about the g3 but we go ski touring and it was just too much camera for the outdoor activities. If I were buying the camera and weren't concerned about the size I would probably buy the g3. Hope this helps.

Believe me, I feel your pain in this decision making.
Working in sales I can tell you this. I would consider what I am going to use this camera for MOST of all and tailor the camera around that use. It sounds like you're looking for an all around camera and for that I like the S50. Its a nice durable high res camera (for your artistic side) that has electronic features similar to the G3. This metal bodied camera would be great for travel and work, but is 5mp which would meet your artistic photographic needs. And for your diving husband, there is a waterproof housing made for this camera! The G3 waterproof housing is quite expensive compared.
You wont have the same add-on flexability as the G3 but I have a feeling that this camera would easily meet/exceed your overall needs!
Hope this helped!

I've had an S30 for nearly a year now.
Fantastic, Brilliant, Unbelievable.
These are all words I and my friends have applied to the results.
I already have additional batteries and the waterproof casing so I am seriously considering to upgrade to the S50 in the next couple of months.
Buy an S series, you will NOT be disappointed.

I have the S400 which takes amazing shots and should handle all of what you are looking for. You can even get an underwater housing.
It is the perfect size. You can keep it in your purse or pocket. It is about the size of a pack of cigarettes. Very solid and durable. Automatic lense cover so need to worry about it falling off. 3X zoom. I love it.
If you want to see sample pics check out this link to my gallery that I just started. If a picture does not say taken with the S400 then those are from my older Kodak.
Let me know what you think.

If you like it, Amazon has it in stock and they are reputable.

Good luck with your decision.

Nancy, why not the a70?? No problem with interior and exterior photos (no Canon camera has problems with this indeed). 3.2 megapixel 2048x1536, adding one megapixel more does not increase much image size, G3 for instance supports up to 2272x1704, not a huge difference. Has 3x optical zoom. It is only 10cm wide only the IXUS is thinner. Has the same Digic image processor as G3. Is able to work in manual mode (very useful for night photos). And also Canon sells a waterproof case.
