Welcome to POTN to another Aussie with fine taste in cars... and cameras! Looks like Sandown. Whats the story here? Someone says "Pls take pics of my car" perhaps. Silver just don't do it for me, but the wheels are nice!

That's a very nice shot! Looks like a great straight line car, but I doubt that I'd want to push it in the corners. ;-)

We have a car show in the UK called top gear and the Monaro has done pretty well arounf their test track which is all corners. Very respectable for a 4 door saloon.

Thats the big hook for the motoring writers covering the publicity for these beasties. Stickiness. These are basicly a '70s muscle car with everything fixed to the nth degree; handles like the best and even stock it 'accelerates' (surprise, blink, head slap!).
Given the govt and insurance regs nowadays, proper ol' fashioned power at the rear wheels is a real achievement (outside the supercar makers).

They like it so much I believe it's been on 3 episodes, even a little drifting on the last one. I believe an 05 6.0 liter was just a hair faster than an STI on the last show on the track.
That thing must be a rocket, got any more shots of it?

Welcome to the forums!!
Nice car. It looks exactly like the new Pontiac GTO sold over here in the states, just with a different nose. Must be the case, with the same 6.0L engine and all. How do you guys like our big American gas guzzling engines? :D
Wish we got Top Gear here. I have a few pieces of episodes that I downloaded from the web, and some of the reviews are absolutely awesome. I particularly remember the McLaren F1 review and the Carrera GT.

The GTO is a rebadge of the Monaro, yes, an actual retro export to the States (and Europe) from Australia. From Aussie With Love (must be a weblink somewhere for the info).
Really. Truly-ruly.

I'm glad too, I test drove one last year (04 model) and absolutely LOVED it, interior is perfect, 6 speed feels nice, great all around car.
Now if we can get some falcons too I'd be really happy

Really. Truly-ruly.Yes, you are right, turns out the original design of the car started in Australia, but the engine and transmission is pure American muscle. If there's one thing we like here, it's BIG engines. 6, 7 and even 8 liter engine are all over. My truck is a 6.8L V10, and the Viper uses an 8.3L V10. Some custom car builders here even built a 10.0L V8 Mustang.
BTW, I like the nose on the Monaro WAY better than the ugly Pontiac nose, not to mention the new hood scoops and rear wing. Leave it to Pontiac to mess up a nice clean design.

Here's the beaut brochure, good graphics!
http://www.holden.com.au//images/sc18_downloads/brochures/Monaro.pdf
quote:
260kW*, 5.7 litre high output Gen III V8, split dual exhaust
Short ratio 6-speed manual...
Service reminder. Appears 1,000km before service is due
I hate bill reminders. worse than "buckle up" beeps-----------------------------------
Still looking for the left hand conversion and aussie mill/engine export story..

My next beast will be a Monaro. It's the most beautiful car built in Australia at the present time. Unfortunately it's run was short and production is stopping at the end on October I believe.
Grey don't do it for my either. Seems I have a thing for the yellow monster.
I am proud this car is Aussie built and always let them American guys know it when evern I get a chance. Seems many can not believe it was not built in the US;)

I think the poster Paramount should show us other shots - but I don't think he will.
The doors and roof look off -could be a ps cut n shut job on a sedan. I'd be convinced if there was some exif and some other pics.
The front calipers aren't 'Monaro'. We need a proper fan here to be able to pick it one way or the other.
CQDX, CQDX, Paramount Paramount. Show more pics pls...

Did someone say Holden? How is this for a blast from the past in Aussie motorsports?

I don't know whether to be offended that you think my photo is fake, or to feel complimented on my Photoshopping skills (which extended to removing the aerial in the original shot). Here's the same car (only this shot was taken by my beautiful assitant) It's a D60 with a 24-70L. I even left the aerial in this time....

Paramount - er... ummm. I have one ride in a Monaro and the doors were very long. Heaps long. Thats my impression of it, besides the dead quiet immasculated exhaust note. I showed your first pic to 2 mates and they couldn't say for sure either way. Where are the badges was one comment. The front looks like the sedan bumper.. etc. Then I showed the second pic. Classic stuff is this, we're a very suspicious lot on the net aren't we!

The scoops and wing are options on both the Monaro and the GTO.
Paramount - beautiful commodore, another car I wish we could get back in the states. I like the background as well, took me a second to see it but it fits perfect. Got any under-hood shots of either car?

great looking monaro, always been a fan of the FR-19's, why is the badge black?

doubt it would be sandown, being in victoria - and with that car having queensland plates, and i doubt sandown would let them park it on the grass lol
but i could be wrong

that monaro is a 5.7, not the 6.0 that was featured on Top Gear - still.. the 5.7's have a bucket load of pull.
it's going to be a sad day in australia when the last monaro is sold.. the 6.0 LS2 CV8-Z.
only 1200 will be made.
first and last:
