Is it possible to extract single frames from an S40 video (e.g., night lightening shots) using a public domain program?

Thanks for any replies

I haven't played with the software, but I would expect the included video editing software would offer a way to do this. If not, try playing the video at the desired resolution... then pause on the frame you want. Try right-clicking to see if you get the "save image as..." option. If not, press Alt-PrintScrn. This will copy a bitmap image of the top window (including the frame you want) to the clipboard. Open your image-editing software and choose the "Paste as New Image" option from the Edit menu.

Since the videos on Powershots and other small digicams are really low-res, don't expect to be able to print a 4x6 image that looks good... but it will be fine for viewing on a computer screen.

I haven't tried it, but WinDVD placed folders on my PC for capture when it was installed. A free trial is available.

Hope it helps
