G2 lens retractions

As some of you know, I dropped my G2 camera. Everything seems OK ( it hit on the top left corner. just slight scuff mark on the corner...camera was off at the time). When I put my ear to the lens as it is retracting, I hear a slight low grind along with the usual buzz. I did not notice this before I dropped it but then again I did not put my ear to the lens. I asked someone who has a G1 to listen and he thought it was normal. Does anyone else hear a slight low gear type noise when lens is retracting? Thanks...I'm paranoid about my camera.

I own a G2, I have never dropped it or mistreated it and yes, I also hear a slight grinding noise on the retraction of the lense. Now, it doesn't happen all the time but it is there most of the time....don't worry about it. As long as the lense retracts your fine.

Hi there, mine does that too, have been meaning to ask others about this but it now appears this is normal.

My G2 also makes the noise. But when its straight on the table (for example) you don't hear it.

A couple of weeks ago my camera was making this noise when retracting the lens. I had to send it away for a unrelated problem (faulty LCD screen) and while it was away I had it serviced. Got it back just now and hey presto no more grinding noise from the lens barrel.

Not sure what it was but it is a lot quieter now.

If you grab the lense when it is extended you can feel the tolerance is not quite what I would call tight,,It feels like a minor vibration problem to me, mine does it, was peeving me, and was trying to get it rectafied, but seeing as how it appears normal, will just leave it alone..

I will take it in today and see what the experts think. I will let you know but it sounds like everyone has the same problem.
