Hi
i purchased my eos10d yesterday and was quite happy with it till this morning when i finally took my canon 35-135 lens off it to try my sigma 18-35 and 70-210(2.8).
both of them generate an error 99 and will not take a picture.
has anyone else had experience of this and how is the problem rectified, i have read vague reports of having to have lenses rechipped but nothing in detail (i live in united kingdom by the way)
this coupled with the fact that my expensive 540EZ flash only works in manual mode is making me wonder if this was such a wise purchase after all
any help would be appreciated
thanks
james

I can tell you that your 10d wants EX flashes, but have no insight about the lens issue. I am shooting with a Sigma
15-30 without any problems or errors. Good luck!

I am also getting Error 99 on my 10D when I use my Sigma 105mm Macro. It's 3 years old, still under warranty. I'll take it in soon to see what Sigma will do to remedy this problem.

The 540EZ flash is not recommended for your EOS 10D. The 550EX is the correct one.

Just for the record
my old sigma lens same problem, if you go to the Sigma uk web site, and post off the lens to them (registered post), they re chip it for free. I had to do this for a 24mm Sigma for my EOS 5 (yes its a really old lens) my experience the service is very good, fast, no problems and free.
In stead of chipping again for my 10D I sold it and bought a 15-30mm Sigma, it is amazing, really sharp, minimal distortion.

Well I have had no problems with any of my older canon L glass or EF glass and some are a bit old. You get what you pay for that is why I have stoped useing Sigma. I had too many problems with sigma lenses and my D30 and my D60 cameras just locking up on me every time a sigma was mouted on the camera. The sigma lenses were not that old at all. Good luck with the re-chiping of you lenses and I hope they can fix it the first time. I have also had many problems with sigma repairs on lenses and sent it the 17-35 HSM APO EX lens in to sigma USA five times for repair and it never worked well on the D60 at all.

i recently ordered the 10d and my plan is to use a ef 35-135 that i have used with an old eos 10s from years ago. my question is how did the 35-135 work with the 10d?
