I've purchased an A70 camera some days ago and also have bought a 128 CF Memorex memory card. I have filled the memory twice so far.

The problem is that one of ten pictures fails. The camera shows two different errors, sometimes "memory card error" and sometimes "corrupted data".

I've formatted the memory card using the camera before using it as the manual reads. And don´t have used the memory on other camera nor on my computer.

I don´t know if the problem is the memory, the camera or if this situation is normal. ¿what would you do in my case?

Tnx!

Read the post by BENN_JII on the same topic but different camera. According to some posters there, you need fast CF cards. By the way, I use a LEXAR 256 MB 12X CF card and no problem at all.

Ok, so the problem seems to be realted to memory. That's surprising because on Memorex web there is a compatibility list that reads that every canon digital camera (not included A70 yet) is compatible with their 128MB CF cards, but this does not seem to be true.

Besides, I don´t remember to have read on Canon manuals that CF memory should accomplish any technical specifications.

Well, I'm not sure if the problem is really the memory speed, but seems that replacing memory should fix it. I will talk with my dealer and will post any conclusions here.

Im having similar probs using a Sandisk 256mb memorty card.

I too wasn't aware that I was better gioing for a certain speed to use with the A70.

Should I swap my memory card for another faster one?

I keep getting, memory error and corrupt data messages??? :-(

I was thinking of buying another card, and scan disk 256 was the cheapest. Should i not go with this one because it will cause errors when shooting with my A70?

Don't buy sandisk mate ! Its pants. Have a look at this:

It compares Flash cards and the SanDisk is coming up rather slow & lethargic. I'd get a kington or viking mate. My Sandisk is on its way back to Mr shop owner! :-)

Hi, just got my replacment 256mb SanDisk CF card and it appears to be fine. I've recorded 3 big mpeg's and taken about 100 pics so far, and all is well. If it dies, i'll keep you posted, but at this moment in time I'm retracting my earlier statement, that Sandisk is pants. :-)

I'd like to get a definitive answer on a reliable CF card.

I had an old Nikon Coolpix 800 that took over 6000 pictures onto two 96MB
Sandisks, with not a single image corrupted. I couldn't even imagine an image
getting corrupted, but-

My new Canon S50 seems to have a real problem with my Sandisk 512MB
Ultracompact flash card, which was an improvement in speed over my old cards.
I get corrupt and damaged pics once the card starts getting fuller, at least
I believe that's a cause of it.

I was going to go for the scan disk, but after lookin at its read and write speeds, i can see why there the cheapest.

Even though SanDisk cards havent performed in general CF card tests, now ive exchanged my faulty San|Disk 256 for a working one, everything is fine.

I've not had a single corrupt data message or anything.

Canon did try to fob me off by telling me that 256mb might be to big for a Canon A70, which is a load of crap!

I've just changed my 128Mb card this weekend as I was having problems with 'Memory card error'. The shop assistant gave me a HC branded card. I'll keep you posted.
