maybe buying a tele converter

Ok so i have a canon Rebel XT. I have a 75-300mm tamron lense, and was thinking of getting a 2x teleconverter. What would the teleconverter make the lense? would it double the 75 or the 300?? Give me some info on teleconverters

It doubles the entire range, making it a 150-600, but you will lose autofocus. The furthest I'd go with that lens is a Tamron 1.4x (cheap black $80 one) or the Kenko 1.4x.
