I've had my camera for around 14 months and around 14k clicks. I purchased a Sigma DG Super 500 flash around February of this year.

Lately, I started noticing some problems with the flash not firing. It started when I was doing a shoot with my strobes (which I use a flash sync cord which goes into the power pack) but it was also happening with my flash. Recently, it has gotten really bad, to the point where the flash will not fire unless i hold it firmly on the flash shoe. I noticed that the shoe has a small amount of play in it, in that the flash will move around both side to side and vertically.

Anyone had any problems like this before? I have a feeling I'm going to be sending my camera back to Canon for repair, but I highly doubt this will be covered under warrenty, so any ideas what i might be shelling out as far as repair costs?

If you slip a small screwdriver into the small hole on the hot shoe, you gently lift the hot shoe over its retaining clasp and slide it off the camera. Tighten the screws underneath and replace the hot shoe.

Scott is right on the money - just had to do the same thing with my D60 - the thing it tighter than ever now - you are going to need a VERY small phillips or flathead screwdriver for the screws under that plate - i used a small jewelers screwdriver that I use to tighten the screws on my glasses.....

OMFG!! life saver!!

i just got around to doing this (yes, a month later). and that's all it needed was a good re-screwing. (i also cleaned some gunk that was under the hot shoe that might have kept it from seating properly...)
