for my curiosity: Where does the highlight on her hair come from? Nice touch.
and for my nitpickery...I would have stamped out the vertical black line from above her head...
No-nonsense relaxed portrait that conveys a warm feeling.
these I like!

Wow....I never noticed that line coming out of the top of her head...now I can't take my eyes off it and it is driving me crazy! Photoshop here I come! LOL
The light is actually coming from the window. It was an all natural light portrait. She is sitting in an old log cabin from the late 1800's. We were trying for an "era" type series of photos. The cabin, natural lighting, dress, etc were all supposed to be a turn of the century kind of thing. It's kind of hard to see in this particular photo.

It looks so balanced and natural, that's why I thought it was a complicated set by a lighting wizard!
I am trying to get the twenties-forties feel to my photos as well but I cannot put my finger on what I am missing. You seem to be getting there. Nice job!

It seems that in the 20-40's there was an area in each photo that was very sharply focused and then soft around the edges and the seipia was more grey ?? Most of those old portrait photos I have kicking around had quite dark backgrounds.. These are both lovely photos ...I would keep your present styles.......

Sally Mann has the style I am after...I think she uses an old glass-negative birdhouse of a camera...
