Well, I've had my 350D for two months now and I was fairly happy with it. I bought it because it left me more money for good glass. I used to shoot with the canon D30, but that's my husbands now since I upgraded. Well, yesterday he knocked the lens on the doorway and it quit auto focussing for a few minutes, so he gave it to me to look at and when I held the camera, i REALLY missed that feel (got the lens working again too). It's almost an identical feel to the 20D... and now I wish I had got the 20D instead of the 350D. There are two reasons. After holding the D30 after two months with the 350D, it feels much more ballanced and steady. And also, I've found it next to impossible to manual focus the 350D. So, I convinced my hubby to let me get the 20D and then I'll sell the 350D... now I just need to come up with the money. :D

Now that is very
Usually it's the wives who seem to get the old stuff here. Good for you!
I agree 110% on the 20D and handling. People forget how important these factors are sometimes.
For my first DSLR I went into the shop to buy a 350D, which was brand new then, but hated it so nearly bought the Nikon D70 which I liked. In the end I got a 300D which I really liked. I only changed to 350D for smaller size and lower weight for travelling. I still wonder if I did the right thing and think about the 20D!!!!! But the 350D is a fine little camera that is very fast and with a great spec. so I will keep it. I'll get the grip before my next big trip.

I love the size/weigth ratio of the 350D, it also fits in my small backpack and I can hold it in one hand alongside me and raise+shoot very easily.
And I can easily manual focus it with my prism focusing screen :D
I might eventualy get a 40D (rumor! :D) or something for "serious" shooting (lots of memory for RAW sequences Mr Canon, please :D) but until then the tiny 350D rocks!

Yeop I entirely agree. The 350D is just too awakardly small. I compared it to the 20D at best buy before buying and I was hesitant to get the 20D merely because of the extra cost. But after having the 20D for a couple of months now, I went back to best buy again and picked up the 350D. I was astonished of how bad it fits in my hand, even more so than when I was shopping around. I guess the 20D is just that goooooddd...
True the 350D is more compact, but then I realized that as soon as I slap a lens on that small body, the entire package is not really that much smaller than my 20D with the same lens, so the advantage there is really diluted.
Oh and I used to have a D30 too. Trust me, the 20D feels much much better than the D30.

I bought the batteri pack to my 350D and it feels like a 20d now :)

Oh, i like the rubbery grippiness of the 20D better too... and that fingernails don't leave marks on it. I'm constantly cleaning the outside of my 350D. I think once I get my 20D, I'll use the money from my 350D for a 85/f1.8 and some other small things.

I agree with you about the 350D. I was undecided about the 350D or 20D, so I went to a local camera shop to physcially hold them...take a few shots, etc.. For a guy like me (6' 1"), there is just now way a 350D is as comfortable is a 20D... As soon as I held the 20D in my hands, I was sold...even though it is a lot more expensive...it's like, a year from now, I won't think about the extra money I spent...but the camera will still feel just as good. Ergonomically, the 20D wins by a mile.
Yeah, mine 20D actually should be arriving in the mail today... I can't wait.

You just have to adapt to the smaller viewfinder. I manual focus often with my Drebel. As with any subject with any camera, closer ones are easier to get the focus right.

The easiest solution is: Don't touch that D30 again!!!! Problem solved. :D
I loved the 350D without the battery grip, but I wanted a second button, so I got the grip and it's a great feel with it. Great balance (me thinks).

Yeah, it's all in how you use the camera. I handled the 20D and XT before I bought, and I'd have paid extra for the XT. Happily I didn't have to. :) Don't get me wrong, the 20D had a great feel, but all my photography is done walking around, and in some cases, seriously hiking for just a few shots. The smaller and lighter the camera around my neck, or in my pack, the better. Same image quality, and I didn't need the few extra features the 20D has over the XT... no-brainer in my case. I'm not really sure why anyone would want extra weight around their neck, but... gotta do whatever makes you happy! That's what a hobby/art is for, after all... ;)

I already had my 20D when the 350 came out. I seriously considered buying the 350 as my travel/backup camera, but just couldn't get around the small/lightness of it (and oddly I don't like the dial on top - why so shiny?). So I sucked it up, took some extra shoots, taught an extra class, and bought a second 20D. I couldn't be happier. :)
