Well I did my first shoot in a long time on Tues. I am still learning and still waiting for an SLR but my friends let me practice with their adorable babies! HEre are 2 from that day.

I'd say your practice is paying off..what an alert baby..she seems so interested in the camera..maybe a future photographer....beautiful child !! The white background,,was this edited in ?? Possible a hair less white?? not much to cc in your photo......

Lovely shots. Maybe try changing to black and white and editing down so that the white is less obvious? either way, very nice.

I'm actually curious how you shot / processed to achieve the clean background. I'd agree that it's very, very WHITE, but I am planning on doing some similar shots with my little daughter and was considering how I might clean up the background a bit if we shoot indoors.

Thanks!!

The technique is outstanding here. The totally clean white background was probably accomplished (Totally guessing, but it's how I've seen it done many times) by blowing out the background. This is done by having the lighting set to overexpose the background by a full 3 stops. (eg. the background lights set to ideally expose te background at f/11 with a given shutter speed and ISO setting and the subject at f/8 and you shoot at f/8 which would perfectly expose your subject but blow out the background.) But I could be wrong. ;)

I love that first shot. She reminds me of the, "Gerber" baby.

I use white vinyl for a background. I love it as it is easy to keep clean and it does provide a bit of brightness. I use natural light for my lighting. Post processing depends on how much light I had during the shoot. These were terrible and shot under very poor lighting conditions. I had to adjust the levels, curves, brightness and contrast on all of these. I also dodge out any lil shadows there may be anywhere. This little girl really is a doll baby.

What an adorable baby! Of course I'm a little partial to redheads! Thanks for sharing these, they're terrific!

Nicely done Lisa.

Certainly, I would not change these to B&W as it would lose the beauty of those blue eyes.

Reducing the contrast slightly and giving the skin a slight blur will give more of a baby softness to the pictures. The resizing and compression for the web may have added to the original contrast.
