Just wanted to say how impressed I am with my G2's battery. I used it throughout an entire day, taking panos, burst mode, outdoor, indoor and videos. Got over 200 photos off the battery. My only limitation was my 256 memory card! Surely impressed with Canon! ps. i just ordered a 220EX Speedlite. Does anyone have any reviews of this flash. I wanted something lightweight and compact.

What is the average life of these batteries? I bought two and both of them just happen to die on me at the same time, lasting only 5-15 minutes at best. Had the batteries for about 11 months of use.

Given these are lithium ion batteries and everybody claiming that they aren't suppose to have memory issues like nicad batteries, is this normal?

How are you charging these batteries? Are you using the built-in charger in the camera or are you using an external charger? It is important that you do not use a charger designed for NiCad batteries on LiIon batteries. I have to agree with Jeremy, I find that a freshly chaged battery will easily last for over 200 hi-res pictures. Good luck with finding your cause.

I have a Lenmar MachI Speed charger. It has not seemed to harm my battery. What do you know of the charger?

I haven't bothered with getting an external charger so I'm using the camera to charge as it stops charging when it gets charged completely.

It sounds like you do a lot of photography, I assume the batteries were OK when new. I understand the life of these batteries is measured in the number of charge/discharge cylcles rather than time. Maybe in 11 months you just wore them out. My shooting is more sporatic, vacations, etc.

I also started having problems with the original Canon battery after about a year of use. It would only take about 5 pictures before needing to charge for 3 hours again. I tried buying a replacement battery but it also had the same problem. Figuring that the problem was the charger and not the battery, I bought the Lenmar MACH1 SpeedCharger and it has fixed the problem. It's like the original Canon battery is brand new again!

The battery life is astonishing. When I was traveling around town one day the switch somehow switched to ON and was left that way for 3+ hours. I didn't have auto shut down on so the camera was on the whole time, and when I discovered the camera was on, the battery was still at full power. Can't go wrong with this battery.
