What is the best ISO setting to use when shooting in dark lighting situations on the Powershot SD400? thank you!

I'd go as high as you can go without too much noise(grainyness). I always use 400, which is the max on my A85 and then use the longest shutter possible without blur.

oh wow. that high...okay.

I 've always had my ISO set to 50 and never adjusted it !! haha. OOPS.
I think I had read somewhere that 50 would be the best for all purpose use, but appearantly that's not accure! lol

I really appreciate you getting back to me! THANK YOU!!

50 is the lowest noise setting - best for bright conditions, but handheld at night you need all the shutter speed you can get, so, if you can stand the noise, go for 400. If not buy a mini tripod and choose a lower ISO.

i've got an IXUS 30 which i THINK is the same, when i'm taking photos of still obects at night (i take photos of cars during night cruises, often parked) i use 100iso and vary between 5 and 15 second shutter. - just make sure no one walks infront of my camera and i'd often get great shots with next to no noise.

but if i was trying to get a pan shot or any moving object shot late at night, i'd up the iso, lower the shutter, and try that way - alot harder but more satisfying when i get good results :P
