This week I got out to Baltimore Ravens training camp in Westminster, Maryland. The camp is very fan-friendly, and I was able to get right up to the rope fence on the sideline at midfield. I shot these with my 20D, 100-400L, and a monopod.

Very good shots. Well exposed and good post processing. The photographs look very natural, almost as I am viewing the scene with my own eyes. I find it funny that all of our training camp galleries look similar. They throw balls. They catch balls. They stand around looking like football players. But this is your gallery and you should be proud of it. I used to make deliveries in the Westminster area. Beautiful country out there.

Thanks you all for your comments! I've always been more of a nature and landscape photographer, but I just got my 100-400L lens in June and I wanted to try my hand at some sports photography. This is probably the first time I've used the "burst" shutter mode on my 20D extensively, and it was a lot of fun to track a player and frame a shot, hold down the shutter button, and just let the action unfold. Looking at the pics later, I was amazed to see, even at 5 fps, how far the ball would travel between shots--made me wish for 10 or 12 fps.

See you at the Super Bowl, Rob!
