In the interest of:
1. Free Trade
2. Competitive marketing
3. My general annoyance at people who find it necessary to 'spam' multiple forums with ads for pricing that's nothing 'special, and to inform readers of the same that might fall for it...
You can get the same 1gb Transcend 30X memory cards from www.powerinnumbers.com.au for US$247.50 - (I'm in no way affiliated with them, they're simply the first site that came to mind that do memory at good prices) - likewise the other sizes...

I was curious about what you said and I did visit both stores. Below is my opinion:
First of all, I don't think that you are in no way affiliated with them. Because you are also trying to "spam" the forum too(just like what the other guy did).
Yes, that is just an approximate US$247.5 for 1GB Transcend Compact Flash. However, this figure is misleading. When I tried to purchase a card, the amount of money gonna charge to my credit card is in AU$, which means I will be charged according to the up-to-date currency rate and I work it out, it is worth more than US$247.5. In fact, if I use the current AU-US rate based on oanda.com, it's 0.6, which means it will be US$270.
I also visited the exeltek store. I belive their US$ prices are more up-to-date and after I have compared both store prices, I found that there are not much differences except for the 1GB CF card. In this case, I would rather purchase a 512MB from exeltek, which can give me greater confidence about their pricing.

I'm a bit confused by the terms used here.
To me, "SPAM" is used to describe unwanted information. How can anyone in this group decide that any of these posts are unwanted by someone in the group ?
Also, how can anyone say that a member of the group posting their findings and trying to pass on to the rest of the group what they consider to be a bargain (whether later found to be incorrect or not) in wrong.
If it was the company or store itself leaving emails or posts then I would agree that it was SPAM.
What do other members think ?

Let's clarify terms. SPAM is generally unsolicited mail of a commercial nature. Tony's posting certainly seemed a bit to me like it was commercial in nature and possibly he represented the firm mentioned. Stuart saw that possible connection and commented negatively. If somebody states that they have no connection to the firm, then we take them on their word.
Of course, all of these postings have to be taken with a grain of salt.
Personally, I use fairly generic CF cards in my D60, so I don't care too much what either of them recommend for brands.

And don't rule out ebay. You can find really good deals on ScanDisk Ultra CF cards. They perform almost the same as the fast Lexar 40X on 10D.

These fantastic prices aside, spam or not, is my 512mb lexar 12x high speed series CF card garbage considering all the references to 30x and 40x? I found this 12x on this site and ordered it seemed the best price around. But I don't even have my 10d yet. So any help?

Absolutley! pack it up and mail it to me immediately!!! If you so much as put it in the same room as your 10D both with burst into flames and fire deadly rockets in all directions!!!! Hurry before it's too late!!!
Don't worry seamansroost, your card will be great in the 10D. yes there are faster, bigger, better, shinier and newer cards around but you'll likely not notice that much difference when just doing day to day shooting.
I shot a whole day of fast paced dagohir sword fighting with my "old" and "slow" IBM 1GB microdrive that I paid only $199US for in my 10D and I never had to wait for a shot due to slow write speeds. Unless you shoot car races or air shows for a living you'll be just fine....

Read your post and was just getting ready to ship it to you but the room filled with smoke as soon as I walked in with my new 10d. Thanks for the info. I'm trying to approach this new digital world with reason but when you are uninformed..... :-)

LIke most of the other newbies here I've asked myself the same questions.
When I bought my D60 I also purchased an IBM 1GB Microdrive for about $200. I thought that was a pretty good deal and I was more interested in space than speed. Shooting mostly landscapes and they hardly ever move so speed is not an issue. Someone did suggest that if I take that drive high in the Colorado mountains I might have trouble as the head flight characteristics would change, blah, blah, blah. I don't know, but I'll try it this summer and let you know. Come to think of it I did shoot with it in Breckinridge this winter (over 9000 feet there) with no problems so bunk.
I then saw a 512MB Viking card for $99 after rebate (I've since seen it for $79 but isn't that the way it always is?). Half the space, but faster right? It's memory instead of spinning so has to be faster, right? Well, I don't know if it is or isn't but it works well.
Then I saw an add for a 256MB Lexar 24x card for something like $129. Hmmmm. Boy do I ever need that! Fortunately, something else distracted me and I never had the chance to get my credit card out. I'm not really sure how that happened, but I think I'm glad.
Having said all that: I've never had a situation where the camera was waiting for the memory, and I tried to make it happen by holding the shutter button down for a while to see if it would. I had to do that as a buddy has the 1D and he was showing off his eight frames a second. Now I'm thinkin' that three per second is about all a normal human being is going to need, but again, I digress.
I also haven't managed to fill either of the cards except when shooting RAW (I know, I know, only hacks shoot anything but!). Then I just slapped the other thing in and kept shooting.
So now I have a 1 GB, a 512 MB and two 128 MB cards. If I ever fill all that up, I'll buy more! Or download it!
I'm with the folks that think it doesn't matter a whole bunch.
There was another thread a couple of months ago on this topic. Somebody said that some of the cards didn't store the data correctly. Indicated that an image from one wasn't as good as the same image from another. Now I'm an engineer and I'm pretty sure that can't happen, but it made for a very interesting couple of days in the forum while a couple of folks duked it out.
Whew. I should have told you that I would be brief no matter how long it takes.

Today I get my XdriveII with USB2, 40 GB harddisk, LiIon battery and 6in1 reader.
This is a fine solution - especially for holidays and journeys.
Price in Europe is 279.- Euro and its is usable as external USB2-harddrive for notebook and PDA also.
Best thing for me, because I am using CF, MM, SD, SM .. and soon xD.

Transfer time CF --> Xdrive
same 260 pictures (total 256 MB) on each card
Insert CF, push "Copy" - that's all.
APACER 256 MB .............. 6 min
KINGSTON 256 MB ............ 4.5 min
SANDISK ULTRA 512 MB .... 5 min
LiIon battery of Xdrive lasts for > 1.5 h, this means ~ 5 GB digital pictures.

If you don't need super fast access times and can off-load images often, I would purchase an IBM 1GB Micro Drive. I have been using the 1GB Micro Drives (4) for about 9 months on the D60 and now the 10D. I purchased mine at www.d-store.com for $179.00 each (no affilation - quick ship no problems). A very good buy for the amount of storage. So far (knock on wood) I have not had a failure or corruption. I have used the drives in the rain and in sub zero temperatures without a problem. I shoot a lot of events and so far no problems.
Two Cents,
Duncan

Microdrive? NEVER!
CF = 0.3 mA (standby) / 25 mA /shock 20 G
MD = 25 mA (standby) / 250 mA /shock 1 G
VIKING 1 GB CF = $ 185 or less.

care to supply a source on the Viking 1GB CF? Pricewatch doesn't list them and doing a google search only turns up cards in the $230 range.
