Here's two more Monarch's from my trip to the butterfly museum yesterday. Out of the two, that first one is my favorite. The little guy looked like he was staring right back at me with that big beedy eye of his. It's pretty cool.

Nice picture but it looks more like a Tiger Longwing the Monarck has what looks like they dark veins in their wings.

That second shot is fabulous. Very nice color and I like the composition. Did you do a lot of post processing to this shot? I'd like to get results this good!

Stargazer, your totally right. It's a Tiger Longwing, and thanks for correcting me. Now I'll know better next time.

Sn@ve, I did do a fair amount of PSing on that shot. I shoot absolutely everything in RAW, and with this photo I just bumped the contrast up, bumped up the saturation, and I think I added like, .17 on the EC to make it a little brighter.

Such results can be achieved using in camera settings, but it's just too much of a pain. In the camera you can create custom perameter settings with increased saturation and contrast settings. Then using custom white balance and paying close attention to histograms will do the trick. Along with all the other stuff of course.

These are not monarchs but I cannot find an exact match other then to say they are a longwing and the tiger longwing looks the closest as mentioned by Frank here.

The second shot here it the best of the two images but a little tight in the back wing edge and the antenna.
