Hi,
does anyone has a link to the manual for a Speedlite 420 EX.
I just bought one second-hand and the seller didn't provide the manual. Grrr.
Can anyone help me to a manual...as a newbie, I'm sure I can not figure this device out by myself.
Thanks on beforehand,
Melanie

I went throught the same process when I purchased a used 380 EX, which is essentially the same flash without the swivel head, but could never find the manual. Check out this link. It's not specific for the 420 EX, however there is a lot of good flash information that you may find helpful.

Hi Melanie,
I just scanned my 420ex manual.
But the problem is that I don't know where to post it since I don't have a personal web site and I would like to give everyone the opportunity to have it.
One thing for sure is that you can contact me by e-mail and I will attach it to the reply.

Hi Yuuuuuuuuh Melanie: A few thoughts about the Canon 420EX Manuel.....first, it was published in 2000 so there is not any specific reference to the G1....if fact, it makes no mention of digital cameras as the manuel refers ONLY to the EOS cameras....second, I've read it several times and found it absolutely useless....If you need a manual to satisfy your curiosity, contact Canon and ask them if an UPDATED MANUAL is now available and does it make references to DIGITAL CAMERAS.....Gooooood Luck. ....redwonder

Hi Ted,
I just asked a friend to send you the manual, since my email account doesn't allow me to send larger attachments.
You will be receiving it soon
Regards,
Melanie

I'm sorry for the email problem, Ted, but that account gets such heavy spamming that I hardly use it anymore.
If I don't clean it every single day, the inbox gets full....go figure ! What is wrong with people ?
Anyway, I'm glad you received it, and I hope you can find what you're looking for.
Don't you just love these forums ? :-)

Melanie

Hi Iain!
Thanks for your swift reply! Downloaded the
file without problems.
I know about enthusiastic spamkillers; my MailWasher
has sent many a good mail to oblivion.. Still you
realy need a good spamblocker, don't you.
My mezz to you STILL bounces back like a boomerang.. (a well thrown one, that is)
Thanks for helping me out!
Best wishes / Bosse

Hi people! I'm new to this forum. I found it because I've been looking high and low for a manual for my recent ebay purchase, the 420ex. If anyone can send it to me via email or direct me to a link where I can download it (english please) I would appreciate it. Mahalo and aloha... elua

I'm quite lucky today in that a friend gave me a basically new flash that he had used for a few years on his EOS (now dead). I find that I know basically nothing about the flash or how to use it (don't laugh...this is my first non-manual flash. I'm connecting it to my Canon 300D. Anyone know where I can find a copy of the owners manual for the flash or other info on how to use it?
Thanks for the assistance.
HRM.

Good luck
I read this in the mean time and it answered most of my questions even what the switch with the green mark or the flash and "H" are for. Thanks
I haven't used a camera in a while and these auto gizmos are new to me. That answer is a big nelp for me.
I bookmarked the site and will have a look around too. I'm sure there is much for me to learn here.

I've been out and just read this thread. II bohght a 420ex for my G6 and to me, the manual is worthless. It is written for film and digital dSSRs and assumes you understand the nomenclature. I don't. I've googled for more info but it is hard to find. This link helped me more than any other link.

Right you are. As you stated, this so-called user guide was published in 2000, before digital cameras were in vogue so to speak. Based on the number of questions that countinually come up regarding the 420EX (and similar flashes), you would think Canon would publish an up to date manual.

Hi
Did you ever have any luck finding an updated manual/posting for the Canon 420EX? One which refers to use with a digital Cano( mine being the G6).I've been looking all over. Thanks

I've been having a e-mail marathon with the Canon e-mail support. They say that they don't update manuals and that all I need to know about Speedlite flash usage with Canon digital cameras (in my case the G6) is in the camera manual. It's easy for them to say!

Read My Lips. It is worthless. Unless you have an Elan 7, don't bother. Just mount it, shoot, and enjoy.
