Your bird shots are beautiful, but have no bokeh. It may just as well have been a grey card behind the subject.
Bokeh is the out of focus background in an image.

Very impressive! With tripod or handheld? I've been lusting after that lens for awhile, except I'm afraid I'll end up selling it just like I did the 70-200 2.8 IS. (Too heavy, didn't use it enough to justify having it). I've never actually seen one in person, but I know they're rather gigantic haha. Maybe someday :)

It feels heavy to me when I first pick it up, but once I start shooting I don't notice the weight at all.

Handheld. At about five pounds the Bigma can start getting heavy at the end of a soccer match ... but for flowers its not a big deal. Not many people shoot flowers with a 500 ... lol.

^*gasp* You sold a 70-200 IS!?! I've yet to find weight an issue, even when I rented the 100-400L. I think it's all made up, this insane weight or I'm just young and used to lifting heavy things.
Haha yes I did. I'm a girl  Coming from a Rebel XT, a 5D with that lens was like trying to lift a boulder. I had to set aside times just to use it, and it was too much of a PITA. I got back exactly what I paid for it and used that money much more efficiently (for me, at least) the 2nd time around :)
Inserting some bokeh to make this on-topic :)

I just read up on this thread not too long ago and researched how to attempt to do a bokeh shot. Let me know if this shot I took this pass weekend is considered a bokeh shot.
Thanks

fiveFPS, I think that is definitely a "bokeh shot" - so well done! That said, and I always forget about this myself so it's rich coming from me, background is important to consider and those three pillars (?) are slightly distracting... Maybe if you had taken the shot from another angle (or even a very low-angle, looking up at the subject with the sky as a backdrop) it would have come out even better. Just a thought :) Keep posting!

The 135 wide open will give you great bokeh at just a few inches behind your focus ... great bokeh lens and sharper than a Ginzo Knife.

Hey FZ_ZA. Thanks for your response. I was under the impression that the bokeh shots require a focused shot of an object and the rear to be blurred. That's why I wanted to find something in the back I can blur out. But I didn't know I can use the sky as a the backdrop of the shot, this will make the shots a lot easier =).
Thanks again. I'll be posting soon when I go through the other photos.

Great pictures so far, keep it going people ;)
These two would be decorating my displays at the moment:
http://www.dvdpimages.com/images/misc/thumbs/IMG_3508.jpg (http://www.dvdpimages.com/images/misc/IMG_3508.jpg) http://www.dvdpimages.com/images/misc/thumbs/IMG_3505.jpg (http://www.dvdpimages.com/images/misc/IMG_3505.jpg)
Did have to cut off the lower bokeh a bit first though, because it was too disturbing for a desktop imo.
Two more good ones:
http://www.dvdpimages.com/images/misc/thumbs/IMG_3573.jpg (http://www.dvdpimages.com/images/misc/IMG_3573.jpg) http://www.dvdpimages.com/images/macro/thumbs/IMG_3626.jpg (http://www.dvdpimages.com/images/macro/IMG_3626.jpg)
The colours on the first of these really work well I think. The last one could be entered in the super macro guess what it is contest... actually used my macro lens' autofocus for that one, because I held my camera too low to be able to look through the viewfinder :)
These four have all been shot with my 400D with Sigma 105, some (but not all) also involve tripod and wired remote.
More on my website :)
