Right back at ya Allen. Great image!
Yeah...I finally took the 40D for a spin. I wound up by North Ave Beach. After shooting outside for about an hour, I decided to go into the Lincoln Park Conservatory. What I forgot was that there is a 30-40 degree change in temperature! Between that and the indoor humidity, my lens fogged up something fierce and I had to wait about a half hour for it to acclimate (I did not have my gear bag with me so... no lens cloth). Thank God that the 40D is somewhat weather sealed because it was sweating bullets... Here is another image from the conservatory.

WOW really nice Ed. Glad your getting to know the 40D. From what I've seen seems like a real sweet camera and in your hands well I can't wait to see more. I had some trouble when I was in the Keys back in Oct. It was real humid while we were down there (more so than usual) and every time I would go out from AC it took 20 + minutes to clear.

This is probably the wrong section to ask this but how do you get a shot like these?

I do not understand...
1. the technical parts required such as what types of lenses, extension tubes etc it takes
2. how do you setup a shot of a fly mating? Dont flys usually fly away when you get within a few feet?

There are some great shots in this thread. Here's one of mine.

I spotted these flies on my fence. I ran into the house and grabbed my wifes camera. Luckily it already had a 100mm F2.8 macro lens on it. No extension tubes, and the flies actually let me get within a foot of them. (I guess they were pre-occupied:wink:) I don't think I will ever get another shot like that again.

Since I hate using the flash on my Rebel XT, I had to get a lens that would allow me
to take shots handheld and with existing light only. Most of my shots are taken indoors with existing light only.

But, these shots here are all outdoors and with a new lens I just purchased.
Its a Canon 50mm 1.4 which works well for my purposes. The one think I don't like about this lense is that its not WIDE enough...

I didn't know what "Bokeh" was until I read about it. And, I realized that the "blur" in the backround is very effective and I really liked it.

But, I'm still researching what lense would be best for shooting handheld, indoors with low light, existing light only. Of course no flash at all...

It's an English language approximation of the Japanese word 'boke', which means blur. It refers to the way a lens renders the out-of-focus are of an image and as such is distinct from the other oft-used measure of a lens, sharpness.

There's plenty of examples of what good, neutral and poor bokeh looks like, but be aware much of it can be subjective.
