Thats dead on.. I just got it, big upgrade from the 75-300mm... how could you tell..?
Congrats on the new lens! As for how I guessed right, I'm surprised I was actually right  Seriously, though, I checked the EXIF information on your image, saw it was 200mm (and so assumed that it was a 70-200, though it could have easily been a 200mm prime) and f/4 (and so assumed that it was an f/4 version of 70-200 - otherwise, you would have posted a shot at f/2.8 for even more bokeh) and, lastly, a shutter speed of 1/50s @ 200mm (with the sharpness you achieved) means that it was either an IS lens (or on a tripod) - but doing that's a hassle :D, so I guessed IS...

Can you talk about the lens you used, any fill flash and what post processing went into it?
Fabulous job there.

:) Thanks. The lens was a 35L @ 1.4 (on a 1D mark II N ). The light is all natural and the only post processing is a bit of sharpening (and it needs a bit of color correction). There was no cropping.

It would be nice if everyone included details of the lens they used, either as EXIF attached to the image or within their post.
I just can't see why we're comparing bokeh if we're not told what lens was used and we have to ask for details each time.

With regards to my shot, the vignetting was added in PP, rather felt it made the eyes concentrate purely on the subject and not try to look elsewhere too much ;)
Glad you all like, has been some nice comments :)

Hatch, very very nice indeed! I like how the subject and the background separates because of the thin dof, but is still one with the background! Excellent!

Can someone explain at what stage "out of focus" background becomes bokeh? Or is it all bokeh by definition? Cheers

Well, technically, a blurry background is bokeh, since bokeh means blur. However, there's a special interest in the "quality" of bokeh, meaning how details and points of light appear. A key aspect is the quality of a circular out-of-focus highlight -- if it is soft, diffuse and circular that gets referred to as "good bokeh". If it's hard, sharp, or shows the lines of a bladed aperture, then that gets thought of as "bad bokeh".
That's a tidbit offered to the discussion, there are other aspects that others might chime in on.

Haven't shared anything in this thread and figured it's about time I do... Two shots of bokeh from me, the second I don't feel is as great, but threw it in nonetheless. Enjoy!
