what does bokeh mean?
After you search and read all the different explanations and meanings you'll see there are still a lot of different interpretations of what good and bad Bokeh is, as well as Bokeh itself.

Strange - the EXIF say FL = 188 mm.
But nice bokeh nontheless.
Maybe it was the 70/200 which is one of the best there is:

This pic is actually a mistake, I set my focal point on the nose with a wide open 50/1.8. Though the more I look at it, I can feel the "cold dog nose" really come through. Not bad for an $80.00 lens and a 300d

You think the shot is too dark? I wasn't sure whether or not it looked good from an exposure stand-point. I actually felt the highlights were too strong in the background originally, drowning the subject out, so I decreased the highlight strength for this shot. I had locked the spot-metering on the bird before shooting so that it would come in right (that's the only reason you can even see him)...irritating lighting at the aquarium. :-P

It does look a bit underexposed to me. Maybe just a tad brighter to bring out the color of the bird. Otherwise, that's creamy bokeh.

Thanks. After spending much time trying to reliably replicate the lensbabies effect in PS, I finally gave up and bought one. This lens is awesome! ;)
Ironically, the best composition with the lensbaby is what would usually be the worst with a traditional lens. It makes you think a little backwards when setting your shots up. ;)

That bokeh looks a bit nervous like a DO lens or maybe a mirror. What did you shoot this with?
It might just be a difficult background, but I'm curious.

I'm pretty sure I shot that with the 75-300 kit lens. The background is kind of 2 parts. There's a branch on this side of a river, and then the greenness is from the trees across the river.

bokeh is the subjective quality of the background blur, while DOF has more to do with the mechanics (and math) of photography... (vaguely).

I have a really stupid question, what is the difference between bokeh and depth of field?DOF (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth_of_field) is the distance range from the camera that is subjectively in focus - 2 feet - Infinity, 3 feet to 3.5 feet. Bokeh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh) is the subjective quality of the out of focus part of a picture.
