Personally, I've always been very fond of the bokeh the 70-300 APO produces, ever since I've had it myself. It really does it well, imho. Rather impressive I think, for such a budget lens.

And thanks to this, I was stimulated to shoot some more with it.
Wide open shots because I really needed the speed (ISO is already higher than what I'd normally find acceptable):

While the 24-105 may not be the lens of choice for creamy bokeh, it is still no slouch.
While hiking through Forest Park in Portland, OR a few days ago, I had my 24-105 on the 5D and took some shots -- this is one:

Is there a dog, baby carrier, or jogging stroller missing from the frame? I just ask becuase it looks like mom's dressed for a work out, and maybe she just got home, or stopped for a break and picked up jr. Just kinda leaves me curious, that's all. Beautiful lighting, was there a reflector or flash? or how did you get the back lighting and the faces evenly lit?

Yea, mom just got done running. She actually ran 7 marathons while pregnant with our little guy. This was just a quick setup 580ex 90 degrees left for rim lighting, 580 ex camera right for fill. My wife could have had a better smile in this one. This was the best of the set where both where looking into the camera.
So, how does the Bokeh rate? If been told it's distracting in the image. Opinions?

Playing with my new 85 1.2, interesting lens, long learning curve, a challenge hand held at 1.2 for some reason when at the close end of the focus range, I notice it'll chatter in the AF there and when it does it's imparitive to hit the star button to lock focus or it's probably going to come out soft. I couldn't figure out what was happening for a while, I thought at first I was unsteady but at a shutter speed of over 1000 that was unlikely.
An interesting lens, I bought it for shooting people and it's nice but not yet nicer than the 70-200 f2.8, I've got to be honest about that. It'll take time, I'm looking at it in a new light for shooting still lifes based upon what I've been noticing under really low light levels yet can still shoot at 200 sec with ISO 400 at f1.2. It makes the idea of a 35L as a sister lens a pretty good idea.
It's a different look than just putting the camera on a long exposure with an f 2.8 lens of the same focal length.
Anyway here's one shot at f1.4, no PP, just downloaded it into LR2Beta and sent it through Photobucket to here.http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb200/palousegirl/_MG_1036.jpg

Peter, that's a lovely shot. I haven't been to London Zoo in many years - I need to go back!
Here's a recent one from the London Zoo with the 75-300 kit lens that I posted in another thread.

Thanks goatee, I'm glad you like it. I was really lucky that he climbed up on the rock to pose that height so I could get a nice background. My other Meercat shots aren't so good as I'm shooting down at them and the back ground is the harsh, reflective dirt of their enclosure that they blend into quite well.

G'day,
I've seen the term brokeh only on POTN since I was lurking, and yet I have absolutly no idea what it means, is it simply macrophotography, or am I missing something important?

It's not very exciting - basically it's just how out of focus areas look. It's most obvious when there are specular highlights - whether they're hard edged, and their shape. I check this thread for the images posted, but there are much bigger things to worry about :D. (See more info on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh))

Like this? LOL! This is the Houston Zoo. Sorry for the poor quality, I'm in the middle of exporting my whole Aperture library to an external drive so that I can wipe my library and start over since I'm at that "delete a few, upload a few cycle" stage... So these are pulled from my Facebook page.

Beautiful example of the Rokkor 85 1.2's bokeh. Did you do the EOS conversion yourself?
I'd love to get my hands on one of these myself, but I don't have the time, patience or tools to do the EOS conversion. This is one of the few lenses that I would deal with MF and stop-down metering to use.
