Yeah, from shooting lots of thin DoF, you begin to appreciate the orbs of light that are thrown into the mix. Mix that with vibrant colors and you've got another subject besides the object the photog focused on :)

Thank you but I think was upstaged by your wonderful image!

And your sig made me laugh out loud, if Santa gets a quote to you let me know what it will cost for the Pacific Northwest portion of the US and Canada. I would be seriously interested. ;)

Thanks to another thread, I was reminded of the custom bokeh effect (bokeh being used due to lack of a better term). Here's the result...

terriyaki
2nd of November 2008 (Sun), 15:22
You gave up searching? How long exactly did you search for? The first hit on google is a Wikipedia article on the term and it took me like 3 seconds to bring that up...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh

"...a photographic term referring to the appearance of out of focus areas in an image produced by a camera lens using a shallow depth of field."

I've found that Blue and White is the best color combination ever (within a picture). Your picture is a good example or how awesome it is

Here's one from me...

The yellow in your picture really makes the blue "pop" though. Its great

Nice shots, PJ!

Bokeh includes both the foreground and the background, although your typical "bokeh" shot would involve a background that includes "specular highlights" -- points of light that blur into circles of light.

You should understand that there is a "wide" definition of bokeh, which is simply "blurring", and then there is an "artistic" or "technical" aspect of bokeh, which is where those highlights are "judged" according to qualities such as softness of the edges and smoothness of the "circle of softness". Generally, "circles" which show sharp edges or, especially, the geometrical shape of the aperture/aperture blades is considered "not-so-good-bokeh".
