That's what I understand it to be but its so subjective (just as bad as the subjectivity of Abstract art).

"Bokeh" is definitely way more interesting when you've got vibrant colors, textures and light in the Foreground/Background. I think what differentiates plain jane "thin DoF" and good Bokeh is the intentional use of it (which I try to do sometimes) with those things.

Looks like he used a macro lens and/or extension tubes. Depth of field even with a 'slow' f/2.8 is very shallow at 15 inches.
