I've kind of settled upon buying the 24-105mm L series lens and bringing along my long suffering (well, suffering) 50mm, or replacing it since the old girl is pretty poor now from overuse. Would it be wise to invest in some filters or flashes to photograph with the harsh tropical lights, nothing too awkward to carry though.
I want to make sure the camera is mint condition when I head off, as the last thing I want is it breaking, where would I send a Canon in Australia for a service and how much would I have to pay? Do you need a specific issue to send one in and how do you get the camera "callibrated" for optimum perfomance, as people mentioned in the 24-105 thread?
