i just bought a d30.

i currently use eos 1v's.

the in-camera flash and pc terminal are working fine, but the hotshoe is not firing the flash. the autozoom works, but the camera is not recognizing the flash nor firinig it.

any ideas?

I've had similar problems. It seems to one of my 550Ex's has worn out shoe (used it in G1) - it works only when I turn it slightly to the left!

A decent cleaning of both contacts helped the other 550EX (I have greasy hands!). The dirty contacts caused also some mode problems (the flashes went to TTL mode and refused to zoom).

Shoe contact is good when you see that flash mark on the left side of viewfinder. If you don't see that the flash wil not fire.
