Image Browser crashes! Help

Please let me know if you've got any tips for diagnosing or solving this problem. When I connect my camera to the USB port it used to automatically run the software to download all images. Now the hard drive chirrups for a few seconds but nothing happens. If I manually run Image Browser first, as soon as I click Canon Camera it gives this error: "The application 'Image Browser' has unexpectedly quit, because an error of type 2 occurred." I've tried doubling the memory for Image Browser to no avail:(
