An American Lady stopped by for a photo session and after a little PS tweaking we have a portrait . Canon G3

I'm not sure that I really like how you cut out the original image, but it is a very beautiful subject. Very well exposed and tack sharp. Hard to judge the aspects of the photo because it has been altered so, but it certainly does make for an interesting image altogether.

I have to say I agree with almo here about the image although the 3d effect is cool and might be a great selling point for cards and such. Looks like it would have been a nice shot without the all the extras.

I think it looks rather stunning! Nice work!

Nice job on the image. The white outline on the wings is somewhat distracting. It would make a striking card.

The white outline on the wings is part of the butterfly. You would have to speak to Mother Nature about that.

One other note here, this is most likely based on the markings I am seeing a painted lady not the american lady, markings on the forward wings are wrong for the american lady.

I stand corrected, after checking my reference material I believe you are correct as there are too many white spots on the forward wing ;however I could not see the underside of the hindwings which would have easily distinguished it from the American Lady by the numerous and much smaller eye-spots forming a band. I have included the original shot just for you & ALMO.

Thanks and I like this version more then the editied one here, although the 3d effect looks great it just makes me think of post cards :) The white spots on the wings are not what you need to go by, there are patterns of marking the darker ones, not sure which book you use but the Glassbergs book butterflies of the east says. "forewing with bold black median band forming semicircle", that spot will only be on a painted lady, you are correct though about the eyespots on the underside of the hindwing being the easiest way to ID them.
