Ok ....enough of the grizzlies and moose with the macro...Here's a fly that has a slight crop job....otherwise not much done to it. This macro photography sure is a tough business if it's at all windy out.. :(

Nice shot. A bit more DOF would be nice.:)

I agree with Leo, this is a neat shot, if you had set the f-stop to f22 or so it would have been even better. Great composition, the crop seems a little tight unless you didn't have the legs in the picture.

More DOF would be nice yep....I'll try it if the wind ever stops blowing.....it seems I focus and wait for the subject to blow back into focus. I'll put a ring flash on the wish list :)
I thought the same thing about the crop job too......a little tight, I'll try and remember that the next time :)

Windy days suck for macro work like this, DOF will always be an issue on extreme close up, but you could experiment with higher ISOs and noise reduction programs to help with the DOF. Nice close up but as mentioned more DOF would have helps and I think I would have left a little more room around the fly here since you are not close enough for just a head shot.

Are you using a Tripod? I found it helps me. I know what you mean about the wind. A small flash hand-held will do wonders for you. Its a very good photo. Looking forward to seeing more.

Yes I always seem to be dragging my tripod around Bald eagle...Starting to drive me nuts actually because I don't have a focussing rail and I could see where that would come in real handy.
Dragonslayer.....I haven't tried ISO's much more than 400 thus far......What do you guys use as far as high ISo's for macro? I can go to 3200 but think that might be a little too noisy :)

Well some will depend on what camera you have but I shoot with a 10d and use neat image, there is a free download of the program that lets you use almost every feature but you can only save the image as a medium resolution Jpg, the paid version allows full sized Tiff files to be saved. I can reduce the noist nicely even on an 800 ISO and higher, normally I would suggest shooting at the lower ISOs when possible and only using the higher ones when you have a shot you want to get and conditions will not allow you to get at the lower ISO speeds

Thanks for the info Dragonslayer.....As a rule I tend to use the lowest ISO possible but I think I'll try experimenting a bit next time I go out and see what happens. I might even have a version of neat image that I haven't used yet......I tend not to spend much time in photoshop but that might have to change :)
