I am new to this forum and so far I am really learning a lot from you all. Thanks.
I've been playing around with photography for a few years now, and have mostly done landscape, nature and some action (sports, military aircraft, cars, etc.) style when I'm not taking standard family pictures. About a year ago I picked up a Canon XSI, and since then my image quality has increased dramatically, and I feel that my composition has improved too. Though I enjoy taking these styles of pictures, I would like to diversify my portfolio a bit and start working with portraiture; and maybe someday make a little money on the side doing some home studio work. I recently purchased a studio strobe kit that I've set up in my garage, along with some backdrops and props, but aside from taking pictures of my wife and and German shepherd, I haven't really been able to get much experience, and I was hoping that I could get some insight on how to find models. I live in the San Diego area, and have considered putting up flyers at San Diego State University (I'm sure there is a bunch of students there with aspirations of modeling professionally, but lacking the money to pay a photographer to set them up with pictures.) I'd like to find people, (women, men, young, old, families, etc.) to shoot, but don't know where to start or how to find them. If you have any advice, I'd love to hear it.
