View Full Version : G1 zooming problem?

When I zoom, the camera zooms all the way, regardless of how long I hold the zoom knob. Also, it cannot zoom back. I am in the auto mode, but have tried other modes with the same results.

Do I have an incorrect setting or is the camera broken?

Thanks.

Same thing happened to me. You need to take it in for repair.

I talked to the service man and he said that it's not common but he's seen the problem before.

I told them it was urgent and picked it up three days later. Hopefully, you'll find someone equally responsive.

Exactly the same problem here, and I am on my second camera with the same problem.
I haven't even had the second one a month yet and have been overly cautious with it.
Are you sure it's not a setting? Please, anyone?

Thanks,

I had the same problem.. I only had the camera for one week when it happened. Since fixed, it's worked fine.

After about 8 perfect months and 100,000 shots (about Jan 2002), my G1 zoom began to automatically zoom out if I tried to zoom at all.

As a severe workaround, I fixed the zoom lever to one side (zoom out) with glue. Since then, I enter the timer/remote mode, and use the remote control to zoom the camera the way I want it, and then return the shooting mode to regular shots. Doing this, the last zoom state stays put.

Its been a while since I ran my tests for this workaround, so I don't remember if it mattered to fix the zoom lever to zoom out or zoom in, but locking the zoom lever aside is required to get the zoom state to stay put when remote control zooming.

Now for my application where I may shoot 10-1000 pictures at one zoom setting in one sitting, this works efficiently. But if I were out shooing and zooming all the time, this would be an irritating fix at best.

I had this problem with a 10 day old G2. A touch of the zoom and it would go all the way out but would not go back. I returned it for a new one.

My PSG1 started having the same problem on monday, I need to get it fixed ASAP. Besides sending the camera directly to Canon are there any other places that can repair this type of problem? Preferably a company on west coast (USA).

I went around to all of the local camera shops and none of them handle digital camera repair :(

I've had my PSG1 for roughly 1 year 3 months.

Thanks
Charles
