I am new to digital photography and recently purchased a 10D. Does anyone know if subjecting this camera, or any digital camera, to exteme hot or cold temperatures will cause damage ? I love to keep my camera with me all the time, but that means leaving it in the car for hours under possible extreme conditions. I live in the midwest where it can be 100 degrees in the summer and 0 degrees in the winter. I obviously don't want to damage a camera I just bought!
Also, could temperatures affect other peripherals such as CompactFlash cards ?

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you

Canon claims a working temperature range of 32-104F (0-40C). I’m sure this could be pushed beyond the published specification a little. However, I did not see any reference to storage or “non-working” temperature. I would assume the range of storage or “non-working” temperatures is wider than the working temps. But, I don’t see any published values. More importantly is the moisture from rapid temperature changes. If you store the camera in your car, I suggest an air-tight bag (baggie) and never in direct sunlight. When the camera experiences rapid temperature changes (hot car into air conditioned building), allow time for the temperature to stabilize while in the air-tight bag. This will dramatically reduce the amount of moisture buildup. Your CF cards are solid state and should equal or better the temperature tolerance of the camera. So what ever the true camera storage specifications turn out to be, the CF cards will be fine. I’ll let you know if I find the storage temperature claims from Canon.
