Now honestly what do you think of these pictures I took of a monarch butterfly? I took them in the perspective of what it was doing. It was sometimes upside down and rather then flip it I let it remain upside down to give the full effect. I also made an effort to capture what it was doing, which was sucking necture with its tounge. Which is one of the reasons Photo #3 is sort of focused on its head mainly whil the wings are somewhat blurred. Any Comments?

Lovely shots of a butterfly; however, what you have captured is a Painted Lady (vanessa cardui). There are actually two butterflies that look very simular. If you notice the numerous small eye-spots forming a band on the underside of the hindwings , this distinguises it from the American Lady (Vanessa virginiensis). Great shots & thanks for sharing.

Numbers 1 and 4 are best as I'm not too keen on the visible structures in the backgrounds of the other two. Really love the comp on #1!

I agree, I find the roofing details distracting in photos 2 and 3. One and four are outstanding

Well thanks everybody glad you all like the butterfly, or some of the shots anyways. :)

In 2 and 3 thats actually the siding. I took them next to my house. Apparently there is this sort of fruit on this bush the wasps go crazy for, which I don't mind because if I sit next to it the wasps don't even bother me. Who knew that butterflys are crazy about it too!

This little guy flew away 3 times before it would let me take some pictures of it. So its not a monarch then? Its a painted lady? OK better change the title. Thanks.

Hmm ok. Painted Lady. Will have to take your word on that as I don't know anything about Butterflys and am a moth man myself. Actually Bee man, in my backyard alone I have about 10 or 12 different species of bee/wasp. Whatever this butterfly is, its kinda pretty. :)
