Hi everyone... I cannot install the software on my "digital camera solution disk". I consistently get an error about a file not found:
================
Error 1311.Source file not found: E:\SOFTWARE\PSTITCH\ENGLISH\Data1.cab. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.
================

This file *does* exists and I can access it in every way one might expect (unzip and view it, get properties, etc).

Any thoughts? I tried simply not installing the photo stitch module, but then I get this same error for a different part of the application. Apparently my system won't find those .cab files.

I've tried turning my anti-virus software off, just in case.

Running Win2000 Pro on an Athlon 1.3 ghz system

What a lovely surprise after being all excited about my new toy.

thanks,
Mike

Mike,

You could try copying all the files to a hard disk folder and installing from there.

Good suggestion Roger. Strangely, I cannot launch the setup.exe from the hard drive. It simply doesn't do anything.

I've successfully installed on my machine at work however, so now I am resigned to the fact that my system is falling apart. It probably needs a rebuild anyway, it's been pretty sluggish for some time now.

Oh, the joy of rebuilding systems. At least we have CD burners nowadays, that makes life a LOT easier.

cheers,
Mike

Hello there.

I have the same problem as yours with the software installation, except that I'm running Windows XP. I cannot install it from the CD and neither from the HD copy. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Gigi.

I have exactly the same problem.

Did you (or somebody else) find a solution?

I have Win XP Pro and had an earlier version of Zoombrowser that installed just fine.

I ran into the same problem with my installation -- and tried the copy to hard drive method as well -- which also didn't work... until:

SUCCESS: I discovered that when you save the files to the hard drive, you MUST BE SURE they are saved at the highest level in the drive... then everything works just fine.

Apparently the software programming can't navigate through extraneous information... I originally had saved the files to a folder called CANON and that didn't work. But when I saved them again in the directory C:\ everything launched and installed as expected.

I have the exact same installation problem and error messages with Windows XP and have talked to Canon extensively. They say it is not a Canon problem but an XP problem. I was not able to copy files to C: drive as recommended to make it install. Any other suggestions? I am at a loss. Thanks so much.

Error 1311.Source file not found: E:\SOFTWARE\PSTITCH\ENGLISH\Data1.cab. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

I just received the Canon Powershot S50 for xmas and was so disappointed not to be able to install the software!! I called tech support after searching the Canon Knowledgebase, and they told me it was a problem with my W2K operating system, that my cab file was missing or corrupted and that I would have to re-install it from the w2k cd.

This did not seem right because the error message defines the path and the file it cannot read (on the installation cd). The file does exist, and is readable on my computer, but not readable by the installer. I tried the Canon software install on 3 different w2k computers, all had the same problem.

Thanks so much for the solution posted above- saving files from the installation cd to my c: drive, then running setup, worked perfectly!

Seems to me even if it is a Windows problem, it is also a Canon problem because it is affecting so many customers. Hopefully Tech Support will update their knowledgebase and their employees manning the phones / emails so that they can give out better solutions. Thank goodness for this site :)

Cheers,

Heidi

Hi There

Often the problem is "anti-virus" software, always disable this first.

Close down all other programs and then try an instal.

Solution: There is a problem accessing the cd, follow the workaround for the affected operating system:

Windows 2000/XP:

1) Start Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools
2) Select Local Security Settings
3) Select Local Policies -> Security Options
4) Double-click on “Restrict CD_ROM access to locally logged on user only”
5) Select Disable, hit OK
6) Restart Windows
7) Attempt install again
*** Optionally you may follow the instructions for
windows 98/Me ***

Windows 98/Me:
1) Copy the contents of the installation folder onto the root of the Hard Drive and install from there.
