300D vs 350D

ok, i've done quite a bit of research and am planning on getting the 350D kit (with the 18-55mm lens). it will cost about 150 dollars more than the older 300D. what is your guys opinion? is the 350D worth the extra 150 or not. (i realise this is probably a stupid question, but please bear with me, im a newb lol) Thanks.

Yes, the operation speed of the 350D make it worthwhile, as does the high ISO performance. For only $150 you'll probably be happy with it for a year or two longer, which sounds like a good investment to me. I moved from the 300D to the 20D and it's one of the best moves i've made in photography. The 350D will give you images that are just as good, it's just not quite as good under pressure IMHO.

what about the nikon d70? how does it compare to the canon 350D? btw, thanks for the help, i just need some reasurance to make myself feel better about my decision = ] (money is hard to come by at my current age and situation lol).

I don't know quite how to break this to you, but for some reason money seems to be hard to come by at any age or situation.:lol:
However, I think if you have the $150, the 350D is well worth the additional expenditure.

I had a 300D and was very happy with it. I have a 350D and am also very happy with it and only changed because it's a bit smaller and lighter for travelling. Is it $150 better ... I would say yes, but only if you need what it provides over the 300D.

As to the Nikon, I nearly bought it rather than the 300D and I would have been happy with that too I'm sure. Try the 350 and D70 in hand if you can and decide. From reports I believe the Nikon Kit lens is very decent so could be a close call.

I'm not that sure any differences one way or another are that significant for many, just remember that if you pick Nikon or Canon that's you pretty well locked into the brand because of lens mount differences.

I was in this position 3 weeks ago and went with the 350XT. I am glad I did. But you really should go into a store and make sure you are ok with the feel. Many people speak of it being too small. I was ok with it and love the lighter weight. I also wanted the 3 fps vs. the 1.5 fps.
I also got my from Dell with 2 coupons...great deals if you can wait it out for the coupons.

thanks for all the help people. this morning i decided on the 350xt and got it from dell for 750 with the lens. now im gonna start looking for a good lens = ]. i think im gonna get the 50mm EF 1.8 lens to start with because its cheap and from what i hear its really good (atleast for the money). once again, thanks for the help, im sure i'll really enjoy my new camera (big step up from my little s70 =]).

edit: also, alot of people commented on the feel and size of the camera, but i truly dont think this'll be a problem for me because i've never used a camera like this before, so i wont know what anything better feels like. plus im sure it'll be better than the little p&s cameras that i've been using ^.^.

Remember you will need to post process your images to get the best out of and Digital SLR. so no "bought a - insert name of dslr here - and all my images are soft.

Also if using the kit lens it's much much sharper from f8-f11

hhah, i post process my pictures no matter how they come out ; ] (i like to add borders to my pics, even if i dont touch the picture itself). i've got a little art gallery on deviantart, some pictures are more heavily altered than others, so some of you may not like them as much, but there's still alot of them that i barely touched. nickysix.deviantart.com if you'd like to check some of them out. also, thanks for the fstop info, i'll make sure to keep it in that range = ].

I'd say that the D70 and 350D are pretty comparable cameras. They both have capabilities that are better than the other. I'm a Canon fan and was driven a bit by price. The Canon kit is several hundred dollars cheaper than the Nikon. I saw the other day that Dell has the XT kit for $739. Wow.

Nice photos on your NickySix :) Post processing images from the 350D will usually consist of sharpening, and maybe playing with contrast, saturation, and levels. If you shoot JPG you can have the camera do it all by changing the parameters (it's in your manual), and that's the quickest way. Just wanted to say welcome, and congrats on getting a great camera! You might want to add the batterygrip some day, it really changes the way you handle the camera IMHO
